About time. The only way to actually create equality is to be equal to everyone regardless of color. You can't give preference to a colored person and take away the same chances to a white person. It's called discrimination. Once everyone is on the same level of equality, then you can say there is no discrimination.

Seems employers end up discriminating more (reverse discrimination)out of fear of being accused of discrimination, pretty sad when you can't hire the most qualified people for a job rather than based on quotas of minority hiring.

being involved in the fire service myself, it's frightening to think that such a position would not go to the most qualified/able person regardless of race. peoples lives are at stake for god's sake.

The company I last worked for was the epitome of political correctness. They always hired a new race/religion it seemed when it came time to hire someone new. There was the token black person, chinese, greek, lesbian, muslim (x2), white... I was the token jew. I was let go for asking for more money.

I was talking with my boss recently (a black man) and he was telling me that he applied to be a police officer a few years back... I'm pretty sure he said the scores were out of 5 and that he would have needed 4.3 to get in while a white man would need a 4.7 to be accepted. Native American applicants needed something like a 3.8.

I'm pretty sure these numbers aren't accurate... I'm just going off memory from a casual conversation. Anyway, I thought this was pretty damn crazy. We want all our white cops to be smart but it's ok if we have a couple dumb natives and black people? Even my boss (remember, a black man!!) thought this was pretty ridiculous.

I'm all for equality, but lower standards for visible minorities is in no way equality. I know some people disagree with me but I definitely believe that reverse-racism is worse than racism in Canada.

there are numerous fire departments in major ontario cities that do this... ie. they hired nobody and restarted the hiring process until more nationalities/women applied.

Ridiculous... I saw an African American woman say "Black's still don't earn as much money as whites"...

For sure there is still prejudice against Blacks.. no doubt about it.. but jobs should go to the most qualified person.. and the actions of our governmnet agencies (ie. police/fire) reverse discriminating is just as bad.
