There are many variations of low carb diets. If it`s something you`ve never done and are not in a big hurry, I think it`s best if you eazed yourself into it. Especially if you`ve never dieted before. Yams are a good carb source no problem there. Sorry no recipies, I eat stuff very bland and don`t get sick of it either. One thing for sure if you`re doing low carbs consume the majority of them before and after training, another reason to train after breakfast if you can while dieting. The rest of the day can be protein and fats.

1oz yams is around 6g carbs so you can go from there and decide how much you want to eat.

I would recommend the opposite

Jump in with both feet and tough it out until you are in ketosis (usually around 3 days straight low carbs will send you in this state). Make sure you are taking in healthy fats at every meal even post workout until your fat loss has plateaued after you've added all the cardio you can.

Yams are definitely not an option. If you want boil and mash some cauliflower with a little bit of macadamia nut oil for butter substitute.

bowler hit it right on. very similar to palumbo diet, only trace carbs are okay no direct source, protein and fats and green veggies all the way.

So much keto love here... It seems like people think it`s the only way to get lean. If you`re looking to getting competition lean, I`d say yeah, go for it. Otherwise you can do very well with carbs for the first 3 meals then doing protein and fat the last 3. I`ve never met anyone do good on keto natural. They all looked like complete shit and lost strength to an embarrasing level. If that`s the case for you, I`d really think about that, even though Palumbo says the opposite.

Plus if you`ve never dieted seriously doing keto will be like getting hit in the face with a shovel. Big shock to the system, and the dicipline required for the average joe is just too much. It`s the most effective, yes, but the hardest. But on one hand the meals are easy to get in. I think the truth usually lies in between, like the recommendation I made to you. If you`re total cals are low enough, it will work and will barely suffer in the process.

Keto is not for everybody as Evan Centaponi (sp) found out. Won his first pro show with carbs... Good luck brother.
