Here`s a quote directly from Palumbo`s Q & A:

lots of info lately written about shakes pre contest cause a washed out look. and also too much reliance on shakes for meals. you rec. shakes the entire time. do you think a shake by itself is what all this is about. mixing a shake with the fats will cause it to digest slower, more like food, so do u think they a re writing about powder alone. what do you think about these theories that are floating around. i think it is from hany.

Thanks

DP: So many people use low quality protein powders that they attributed the problems to the powder and not the excess crap that was in it (lactose and fillers). If you use a high quality whey isolate like ISOLYZE, you will not get any water retention. As for a shake being less beneficial than food - it is FOOD! And if you add fats and/or carbs it becomes a well rounded meal.

Of course he's gonna promote it, when he's selling it :)
I take shakes 2-3 times a day though. But I don't take isolate. I have a mixture of concentrate, isolate, casein, milk isolate, and whole egg protein... so it has fast digesting and slower digesting protein. And a shake is my last meal with tbsp of Udo's 3-6-9.
There was a member on CJM, PS, dunno if he' still around, as I haven't been around for years, but I remember him saying something like almost every meal of his was a liquid meal.

he has a point "protein isolate" doesn't have fat, carbs, lactose that protein blends do.

But the blends have minimal amounts of carbs and fats. If you have a good metabolism, they`re fine. Also the cost difference does not justify the minimal if any difference using an iso over a concentrate will make. At least by my own experience.

Its this the theory behind Muscle Milk.

Not to mention many isolates still are pure isolate even if they say they are.

Its this the theory behind Muscle Milk.

I thought muscle milk was supposed to have slow release proteins in it as a selling point. Making it crap for post workout. But I remember reading the ingredient profile and lot`s of junk in that drink. Plus you`re paying big bucks for it. Used it personally for a while and didn`t see any difference at all. It was the U.S. version.

Many isolates on the market are not 100% isolate they are often 'cut' with lower grade.

speculation.... Also, Palumbo is knows his shit, but he is also advising
"people" to use his companies protein. Not much of a surprise.

When dieting, with whole foods you know exactly what you are getting which makes a difference. You buy cheap ass chicken thats gone bad your going to get sick. You buy good fresh chicken your getting quality protein and you know for sure its just chicken. With protein powders you dont know exactly whats in them for sure or not, your going by the trusty company label.

I'm sure the competition is always testing each others product. If it wasn't what it say it was you would hear about it.

No, I don't have specific ones. It's kinda known for those that work inside the industry, and if you think about it, it makes a lot of sense.
The supp market is so competitive, especially for whey, and the profits are so small. I can't think of costs off the top of my head, but if you are paying say double for isolate, compared to concentrate, and we're talking about a difference of 10%(80 compared to 90) in protein, which is almost not even noticeable. Or you can even use 34% whey and save even more money. They give you enough margin of errror even if it was tested, it would pass anyways.

Look at those "proprietary blends'. Half them are such BS it's not even funny.
People think they are buying these Isolate 'blends', when they are getting as little as isolate as possible.

Look at those Detour bars when they first came out. Didn't they say something like 9g of sugar or something, and ended up being like 30+g? lol
