The new law would:

Allow cops to get access to information on any Internet subscriber, including their name, home address or email, all without a warrant.

Force ISPs to keep a copy of the data generated by people under investigation on their company hard drives to prevent suspects from deleting anything incriminating or of evidence.

Make all Telecom companies invest in technology that allows for the interception of Internet communications. Critics worry this could prove a financial hardship for smaller ISPs.

Let police remotely activate tracking devices that may already be embedded in your cell phone or car without your knowledge.

Allow law enforcement to get data on where your communications over the web are coming from and who they're going to.

Make it against the law to arrange the sexual exploitation of a child with a second person over the web

jeezez ****..this is getting more american than I care for...

this is some scary shit. of course the cops will be focusing in on sites like this...not a pretty picture all we can do is hope it doesn't pass

Cops have been on these sites for some time now.

I seriously stress that no one does anything illegal on the internet.

For sites like CBB to continue and to give us a place we call home and can come and chat about stuff and keep motivated, anything illegal is forbidden here. If you want to risk doing something illegal, whatever you do off the site is no concern of mine. But I will warn you, more chances than not, you will get caught.

Listen, this law is being passed to directly and easily go after illegal activity on the net. A two bit drug dealer does not sell on the net. They sell on the streets. Those are not being targeted.

It would be guys trying to move kilos of stuff, money laundering etc. UG labs will be a HUGE and EASY target now. Expect many busts to come or many labs to disappear. Don't forget, the olympics are this winter. The busts must come before then for political reasons. This is what will make it happen easily. Clients are not safe either. If you read my thread in the AAS forum about the steroid laws, you can get charged with trafficking if you try to buy AAS online or conspiracy to traffic.

I seriously no one is stupid enough to do something illegal on CBB. How many times was it stated that it puts the site at risk and very dangerous.

Now with this new law, everyone that does something illegal can easily get busted.

If one wants to juice, most logical approach is to get it from someone in your gym. So you pay a little more. Better that than the headache that will come if LE busts your door down.

This hasn't passed yet. Mr. harper is going to need support on this being a minority government.
Typical conservative tactics- Trying to look tough on crime to deflect attention from the current problems.

Who needs civil liberties? Only the guilty of course
MP's wanna give the police the power to randomly give sobriety tests without reasonable suspicion because they somehow think that will reduce drunk driving.

Why no just ban alcohol? Or better yet cars?

This hasn't been voted on yet. If people really care about this becoming law (and they really should IMO) they should contact there local MP, as well as the PM's office and voice there strong opposition to it.

Although this law would not have any effect on my life as I have nothing to worry about. It scares me that someone would be allowed to track my cell phone, car, emails and force my ISP to keep records of what I do without me even knowing.

Its very clear to me that this law has more positives than negatives but I still don't think its nessecary. If law can take down street gangs pushing large amounts of drugs and pedos great BUT whats the point in catching them if there just let out of jail 6 months later.

A perfect example of our shitty justice system is. A friend of mine was leaving a bar a few weeks ago and got stabbed in the liver on the way to his car. This attack was totally unprevoked and the guys who stabbed him was high on crack and there were several witnesses. After my friend was stabbed this crack head ran down the street and also stabbed another person in the neck. Lucky for him he was stabbed in the perfect spot as it missed all the big veins and what not.

You would think someone should be locked away for a very long time for almost murdering 2 innocent people. Not in Canada. This joker got 3 years and will probably be out in 1.5. WHAT THE ****. Why don't we just lock away the bad guys that we catch instead of letting them out right away. There really is no need for this new law what we should concentate on is not having a revolving door for a justice system.

Yes this bill still has to go through. Lots of opposition on it already.

Few major points.

- IP addy/emails can easily be spoofed.
- How can they be sure beyond a reasonable doubt that the person they THINK was using that IP/connection was the actual person charged?
- People with unprotected wireless home networks can be at risk of unidentified persons using their connection without their knowledge.
- These "sophisticated" criminals will just start to using encryption and coffee shops to gain access.

Regardless of what they do, you should really become familiar with the basic Human Rights all UN countries agreed to. That law is in direct violation with

Article 12.
No one shall be subjected to arbitrary interference with his privacy, family, home or correspondence, nor to attacks upon his honour and reputation. Everyone has the right to the protection of the law against such interference or attacks.

It can't be stated any more clear than that.
