Same here...I also happen to agree with heavy fines for talking on a cell while driving. I've lost count how many accidents I've narrowly averted because some ****tard was talking on a phone and not paying attention to the road. About as dangerous as a drunk driver IMO.

The problem with this law is that you are convicted on the spot without the access to a lawyer or the courts. You are charged and convicted by the cop and the breathalyzer equipment. This is the same as having your car and licensed yanked because the radar gun said you were 50 over. There is no appeal process for this. This is just one more step in eroding our rights.

I agree the cops can be dicks about it but here in canada you are inocent untill proven guilty in a court of law. And if you have enough money to spend it doesnt even matter if you were guilty.

I disagree with how the 50 over is done, I don't think the police should be able to take the car for 7 days without a court appearance. I do think that they should make the 50 over a criminal charge, and if you are found guilty in court, you forfeit your car, or if it isn't your car, you have the choice of jail or a 10 G fine and no matter what a license suspension. that would be a better deterrent.

I think some of you need to look at the big picture here also... YES drinking and driving causes deaths...

but so does alcohol use.. . so what is next prohibition?? we just keep losing our rights and people need to stand up to the shit.

Does 0.05 to 0.08 really make a difference??? not getting enough sleep probably makes more of a difference.... this law is all about giving the cops more power.

what about if you are found not guilty because the cop screwed up and violated your rights? Basically your screwed until you go to court. IMO cops should be enforcing the law, not making legal decisions, and that is what is a violation of our rights. After a highspeed chase or a stressful apprehension there isn't a cop who can remain objective, as they have a tonne of adrenaline running through their system.
