mods, please do not move to technology as no one reads that crap lol
What is the best way to hide or use an anonymous IP addresss.
For us computer idiots, the IP address is essentially the address of your computer on the internet.
For instance, if an email is sent to a guy, and that guy gets busted for some illegal activity. Then your email lists your IP addy, even with safe-mail etc., the cops will have your identity.
The with the ip address, the cops can see all of your activities online.
So what does everyone use?
There was a great thread on encrypting your emails somewhere here, surprised it didnt become a sticky.
As for just hiding your IP address while surfing/emailing, nothing a great proxy wont cover. I was actually surprised that safe-mail's servers keep the originating IP in the source. Many servers dont (ie gmail). Go here , grab a high anonymity proxy and you should be safe with safe-mail. But that of course doesnt encrypt the actual mail.

This is pretty much as good as it gets, but you need 2 way co-operation.
If you're really paranoid, or run a larger operation, host and maintain your own mail server. I used to until it became too much of a hastle.

What good is encrypting if they can decrypt it? People put too much faith in that. If you are invovled n activity that will makethe cops bother trackng you down online you need to get out of your house and use an internet cafe.
If you just want privacy use a paid for proxy located OFFSHORE and one that is proven to "lose" records (like I don't know the ones in Amsterdam).
Safe-mail does keep your original IP but they don't co-operate with the cops. They have already been tested on that. They offer zero co-operation and are located in Israel. BUT hiding your IP is very important. Think abot it like a lawyer. How many layers can I keep between me and cofusing the shit out a judge and or jury. That's what you need.

Well said. Proxies are not foolproof. Everything leaves a trail. You need to be anonymous at your source to the internet. Internet cafe without ID, or even better.. leech off unecrypted wireless connections all around you.

This is a great point, if the person you're in contact with gets their equipment confiscated, they have all your logs/interaction anyway.

It's all about how much do you trustthe guy doingthe proxy? And trust me there are some very hard core proxies out there (and no TOR isn't one of them) that keep "zero day" logs and end to end encryption. It's not impossible to track you but very, very difficult. For them to come after you on this you have to be top 10 FBI/CIA most wanted so I doubt we have to worry about that.
As far as encrypting emails- Check out the "Philipino BillGates" and Al Queda case.PGP codes and all that James Bond shit some guys do make me laugh because it's been cracked and CAN be cracked, IF they want to. But do they? I doubt it. We don't qualify for that kind of oney put into an investigation unless some of you are trying to blow up buildings onteh side or something.
What we need a pretty good proxy with end to end encryption and a good email provider that knows how to shut up (stay away from Hish inc. and there "safe" emails").
We don't need to worry about the higher end stuff as we are not in that category. Butthe best thing is if you are a bigger player for whatever reason, you better find a nice internet cafe...then again they can get you on survelliance.
