I was given a workout plan with the following info to help with mygoal of losing 10-15lbs and tone up.

Heart rate range 119bpm-163bpm
warm-up 5-7mins

cardio program 3-5x / week

30-45mins

7-8 intensity ( scale of 1-10 )

Resistance program
3x / week ( every other day )
12-15 reps, 2-3 sets
6-8 intensity ( scale 1-10 )

Here is my question......what is the "intensity" in both both cases above? I am 36yrs of age by the way.

Thx

IMO, 1 is you don't break a sweat and 10 is you puke. I'm not a big fan of cardio and usually keep it to 10-15min before I workout to raise the heart rate and get your blood pumping. If you do 30-45min high intensity cardio you wont be resistance training after, or at least not at a good intensity. Another pointer is don't count, lift to failure. If your doing over 10-12 reps increase the weight. Once you start working out the fat will come off and if you want to tone you need to build the muscle and not burn it up doing high cardio.

I do cardio post workout on the lifefitness elipticals. I always chose manual, enter my weight and time which is usually 20 minutes.

There are 2 resistance settings at least on these machines, one is for incline and I use 10 (1 to 10 scale) and the second is overall resistance, I use 50 (1 to 100 scale). I don't want my heart to blow up, but want a good cardio and leg workout as well. I keep my calorie burn at 1300 per hour.
