So I am about to compete in my second show in less than 2 weeks. Last time around I was spending like $300-$400/month on supplements. This time around I did it all with food. The only thing I supplemented was protein. So whey was the only thing I used other than food.

I am leaner, and more ripped than the last show. I dont know if it has anything to do with not taking supplements but I just wanted to test the facts. I wanted to see if these supplements were worth the money I was spending. In the off season I may do some form of creatine to bulk but thats about it.

Anyone else do a complete natural show without the aids of supplements?

I have dieted countless natural competitors, and they only use a good whey iso, and certain vitamins/minerals. Also, depending on the diet, some EFA. Glutamine is nice to have in there if they can afford it.

$400 is a lot to spend on supps. What's your grocery bill?

I actually have them use more stuff in the off season.

Cheers
Ron

Yes I use an EFA as well. I use Udo's in a shake everyday as well.

Grocery bill is not bad. The chicken is what costs me most of my money. Always looking for deals on chicken.

How were you spending 400 bucks on supps a month?!?! Is that just using supps and no real food?

Whey, Multi, cod liver oil, flaxseed organic, creatine, bcaa, leucine some more vitamins and minerals too. Don't think it worth buying that much supplements.

Whey, bcaas, glutamine, and creatine for now. In a month the creatine will be out.

the four main things are whey, glutamine, multis and creatine but i don't know if its still considered natural.. i've always wondered how much 'natural' bodyuilders actually rely on supplements and how their grocery bills look.

I have not done a show yet, but i do plan on it in the years to come. When you say completely all natural, NOBODY is going to workout and not take supplements. We all have noticed some small gains by taking in more basic nutrients our body's need to recover. Obviously there is a huge difference between amino acid supplementation and steroids, I'm sure most of us realize that. I consider myself ALL NATURAL and I take in all types of Canadian legal supplements. If it's sold LEGALLY on a Canadian shelf (not prescription drugs) it's good to go in my books. I don't rely on supplements for anything except eating another meal because I have no time to cook. When I first took creatine I maybe got 10% stronger and that was about it. No matter how much supplementation I do, I only get 10lbs heavier per year, and I've been working out steady for over 9 years.

So you gained 90lbs over the past 9 years?

I just started cutting for my first show and i am down to almost nothing for sups except for MCT oil, no more whey now. Thru the last half of my bulking i dropped the other sups i was using except an iso whey and MCT oil. Trainers said if they dont feel like they are working they probably aren't. For the most part i was just pissing money away on garbage.

I have tried most supps and read most of the research available on medline, the only supps that I chose to use are Protein Powders, Creatine, ECA, Yohimbine and r-ALA.

I also take a multi, vitamin d, fish oil but I don't consider those bodybuilding supplements.

I used to compete taking nothing at all not even protein actually first show was on 60 grams of protein a day mostly from pasta. I still won. as I added more supplements things got easier and I got better. I remember my first effedrine in my earlyu 20's boy thats changed everything. 400$ a month on supplements. I take way more then that every month of course its all sponsored but if I had to buy it would be way over that so its easy to see spending 400.

Yah sponsorship cuts my bill down quite a bit... hate to think of what I'd have to spend. It's still pretty hefty as I am only sponsored by AI and get some freebees from other companies....
