A physical education teacher told the AP her Chicago school only has enough resources and gym space to hold classes once a week for each student. Betty Hale said that's not enough to make a real difference in childhood obesity.

Insane. PE should be happening once to twice a day not once or twice a week.

Its just wrong, I would walk to and from school and PE everyday and soccer or rugby after school. Now it a ride to and from, PE when they have time and computer or xbox after school

Parents deserve most of the blame in my opinion, but it is understandable as to why the kids are so fat. I think there is an element that most parents today believe their child has to be enrolled in a sort of regimented activity like hockey, when instead most of us played pickup hockey with their brothers or neighbours.
Another factor I think is that the mom is always working now and can't be at home till 5 or 6pm which gives the kids plenty of time to watch TV after school.

Recess is a joke. Apparently tag, dodgeball, and other "violent or non inclusive" sports are banned in the PC schools.
