Just wondering how many guys here are on a "program" and how many just pick certain body parts for certain days and change there excersizes. As well do you guys keep a book of all your lifts or go from memory? This would be a good place to post your "progreams" if you like and mabey we could all learn a thing or two.
I workout 3 days a week, i keep a log and follow a routine until i find that i have plateaud, then i spend an afternooon changing my routine with new lifts and different goals in mind.
I follow a program and keep a log. There is no way i would be able to remember all my lifts. i have a bad memory. Having a program also gives me a plan of attack in the gym. I know exactly how many reps, sets and rest in between sets i will be doing each day. I have my program worked out for the entire year taking a week off of training here and there every 6-9 weeks and 3-4 weeks off and the end of the year

i keep a log. I have the memory of a goldfish and there's no way I'd remember anything.
edit: i remember one blonde moment about a year ago before I was keeping track. I came to the gym, stretched a bit, loaded up a plate on a bench and started bench pressing. at the end of the set I realized the reason I felt some soreness in the chest was cuz I just ****ing did chest yesterday.

All on memory! Like a dvd. The order I do each lift changes everytime, depending how I feel.
Also If I think certain areas are weak points, I'll train them first.
Ex. I work the back region of my shoulders first because they seem to be developed less than the front of my deltoids.
I prefer to keep my body guessing. I will do the main lifts everytime though.

I keep a spreadsheet to calculate my warmup weights and remember what I'm lifting each workout for a given program that I'm on.

I writup a new program every 6, 8 or 10 weeks, right the whole program up in my workout book. Then after every workout I go home have my shake and write down what I did reps/sets and sometimes little notes on what I want tot work on next time ect, i'll usally review last weeks workout before I hit the gym for my next one just so I have an idea of what weights/reps I need to beat to progress.

I bring a little chubby notebook with me, and write everything down along with comments, on how I feel (energy wise)
MY routine is pretty set, doesn't change until I stop seeing progress or I want to change something to put more emphasis on a certain body part

If you're serious about training, you should know exactly what you're going to do at the gym before you get there and you should write everything down. Even if a person could remember everything it really does help writing it down.

i have had a few diffrent set routines for the last year or so with great progress.. but just recently started lifting w/o... i found that the lifts i was doing were gaining huge but other lifts were going down as a result of not doing them.. so for now im making sure i cover my basic lifts and then a few diffrent excesizes each time to try something new for a while. As well i was lifting low rep for a long time and feel like my higher rep has suffered. I think its important to change it up once in a while.

I actually keep my journal in my Blackberry..small and doesn't make me feel like I'm carrying around an office while I'm in the gym...although one day this big ass dude gave me shit for using my phone in the gym...he had massive biceps..and the skinniest calves I've ever seen...lol

I use a set routine - kind of have a 3 week rotation so I have to keep a log with me at the gym otherwise I'd never remember what my lifts were 3 weeks ago

I write down my exercises, sets and reps...dont bother taking note of my weight, sometimes I will jot it down if it was really heavy for future reference.
Also I dont have set routines, I believe in training instinctively. So every workout is different for me, same concept just different order of exercises and new ones too.
I usually doa few warm ups sets or as many as needed then 3 working sets. I just bumped it up to 4 working sets as I am getting closer to the contest.

I do it all in my head. I have a routine I follow closely, and weight wise, when I feel like I can, I lift heavier and then adjust weights accordingly once the new weight is achieved.
who i've seen writing shit down at the gym:
1 - athletes doing sport specific training
2 - guys 130lb worth of bones skin and feces
in my experience, i've never ever seen any truly big mother****ers bother with that

I do a split routine but the sets I do depend on how I am feeling that day and how busy the gym is. I hate waiting so I will do what every I can to keep the pace going.
