Canadian prices for commodities haven't gone down despite the soaring loonie. Some retailers have dropped their prices, like hbc, zellers, walmart and chapters but most have not. I have started sending out emails to other companies expressing my displeasure with their greed. I would suggest doing the same as they might listen if we all scream together.
The only real way we can get them to lower their prices in another way is to hit them hard at christmas and to buy everything south of the border if they don't lower their prices.
or better yet... boycott Christmas altogether.

My wife and kids would kill me if I would boycott xmas...lol
But you have a good idea blimp. Certainly I expect more for my buck now. I might just do as you suggested.

Well there is online shopping, I have always done it but now there is way more incentive! I have not been to the US for years but am considering going down there with our dollar so high. I was listening to a talk radio show and they were saying some things were up to 50% cheaper than what we pay here in Canada!
The books we get are higher in price.

lol I already contaced amazon.ca, futureshop.ca and tigerdirect.ca with my gripe. amazon and tigerdirect told me they can't lower price because they buy at a higher price. I told them I can't sympathize with them if my dollar can get more south of the border. I'll take my business there regardless of their defense. They bought the item in a weaker loonie market and now they don't want to lower the price as it will eat into their profit. I think a lot of canadian businesses will take a loss this year.

I ordered a couple of books from amazon.ca a couple of weeks ago. I checked Amazon.com, and while the original prices for the books were cheaper, they wanted to charge me $13 for shipping. But ordering from the Canadian site I got free shipping. So in the end, I saved about $2 ordering from the canadian site...lol.

I think we should remember though that many retailers still pay duties on goods imported. Though books should appear to be equal in cost now, retailers still have to pay duties.
Also consider that with oil closing at $90 a barrel today that transportation costs could offset any perceived gains.
I say we have a "Festivus for the Restuv Us!"

depends on what you get I would imagine:

either buying in bulk or going in on a purchase with someone else might offset the shipping costs
