this might be a stupid question but its been bugging me lately

When I make my protein shakes i put one cup of dry quick oats in it and then blend it and drink it.

do you digest the oats the same as if you would prepare them with hot water ??

lol your right that is a stupid question..... but since some of your oats are blended you will actually digest them better....

Not such a dumb question, I've kinda been wondering the same thing. If it doesn't digest as well because it's uncooked. Should be fine though.

John Berardi recomends drinking raw uncooked oats, so I don`t see how there can be a problem with this.

uncooked quick oats digest just fine.

you can also use a food processor and gring your oats into a powder, and then it mixes better in your protein shake.

For sure blend it up. The few times I drank it without blending it, for some reason I got the shits.

You can check your stool to see how well it digests or ask a freind :)

I have never thought of putting oats in my protein shake good idea for breakfast as i dont always have time to eat in the mornings.....

Its perfectly fine. However, my friend who is doing his Masters in Nutritional Science was trying to explain to me that the absorption or the molecular structure of the carbohydrate chain changes when cooked and raw... not a big deal though im sure

dammit, now we are all ****ed....lolol..
i put mine in a coff grinder and pre grind a couple yogurt containers worth...great stuff, i regular 70 cc protein scooper of oats is 45 grams/carbs y'all...
shake and serve, makes it thicker like a shake to..

I use one of those magic bullets to grind them up and put in lean beef burgers

I can't find the article, but there was an article, with proof, that grinding oatmeal would raise GI. I dont' think it was by much though. But also found this one:

University Department of Medicine, Bristol Royal Infirmary, UK.

When normal volunteers ate isocaloric wheat-based meals, their plasma insulin responses (peak concentration and area under curve) increased stepwise: whole grains less than cracked grains less than coarse flour less than fine flour. Insulin responses were also greater with fine maizemeal than with whole or cracked maize grains but were similar with whole groats, rolled oats, and fine oatmeal. The peak-to-nadir swing of plasma glucose was greater with wheat flour than with cracked or whole grains. In vitro starch hydrolysis by pancreatic amylase was faster with decreasing particle size with all three cereals. Correlation with the in vivo data was imperfect. Oat-based meals evoked smaller glucose and insulin responses than wheat- or maize-based meals. Particle size influences the digestion rate and consequent metabolic effects of wheat and maize but not oats. The increased insulin response to finely ground flour may be relevant to the etiology of diseases associated with hyperinsulinemia and to the management of diabetes.

they may digest a tad slower, which is what i want when i take oats
