I'm renting a 2009 Silverado for my vacation just for the hell of it so I can see what it feels like to drive a truck. Just wanted to know if anyone here had a Silverado or something like to see how far a tank of gas will get you.
Anyone?

Ive have two 04+ F150's with the 5.4L, and on the highway traveling at 100-105km/hr I got 700-750km from full to empty. However, those truck had 135 litre gas tanks.... ****en sucked filling up at $1.50/L!

I drive a 2000 dodge dakota R/T w/5.9L and in 130km i'll burn 3/4 of a tank, which usually costs 45-50 bucks. Those damn 4.11's outback really kill the highway mileage.

Count on 150-200km then... :sup
I've never owned a truck but I drove a company truck for a couple summers and I've driven trucks lots when helping family move and shit like that. I'm not all that comfortable driving trucks though... I get paranoid taking corners fast and shit like that...
One nice thing is that you can see over all the traffic ahead of you to see wtf is going on.
I drive a 2009 Tundra, v8 5.7L 381 hp pig. Yes it uses a lot of gas, but it is worth it. As for mileage, my truck uses about 13.5L/100km highway and about 19L/100km city. I think the silverado is a bit of a smaller truck so mileage should be better. I could never go back to a car after driving a truck! Well unless gas his 5.00/L

Average fuel economy in my dad's Sierra is about 14.5L/100km.
On the highway it depends on how fast you are going but should be around 10-12L/100km if you are doing between 115-130.
The GMC and Chevy trucks have the nicest interiors in my opinion. Dodge's don't offer the same quality I think, but are a better towing truck.

I gots stock 4.88's in my Cruiser, that with a 4 banger diesel with a 3500rpm readline makes for a top speed of around 100km/h... Builds patience.:popc2

I have had 4 fords, 3 chevs and 3 dodges (all 3/4ton heavy duty) in the last 9-10 years as work trucks with the company I work with.
When it came down to us buying a personal truck we bought a 3/4 Dodge mega cab with the cummins. I would not buy a Chev or a Ford with my own money. The company lets me pick the vehicle I want so I tried a few different ones and different options before we spent the 65K on one of our own.
You would have the perfect truck if you could pick a few things from each domestic but thats not gonna happen.
We will buy another dodge cummins when it comes time to get a new truck.
If you are not going to tow anything heavy go with the Toyota or Nissan, when the boss does his cost analysis on trucks these two cost about half of what the domestics cost and that is including the cost of operating and maintanance/repairs. If I remember right the domestics all ran around $0.25 - $0.30/km and the two imports were in the mid teens per km.
Keep in mind that we get rid of the truck when it gets between 150-200k km.

the 09 chev should be around 18-21mpg with a light foot. if you speed a lot or have a heavy foot it will turn into 12mpg fast

I am curious now, my tundra is rated to tow 10,700lbs, how much more weight do the other trucks that you mentioned tow? When I looked at the f150, it was rated for 7,500lbs.

Its not so much how much its rated to pull as how it handles the weight when pulling. The rating for how much it tows is based on the Gross Combined Weight Rating for the size of the vehicle. You get 2 trucks that are identical in size, type, and rated the same as far as weight to pull etc etc. Have a gas engine in one and diesel in the other, the diesel will out pull the gas any day of the week.
Take your Tundra put a diesel in it (which Toyota and Nissan have talked about) and you would find a huge difference on how it towed.
I am not really sure why the imports dont have a full size truck with a diesel engine, they have half size trucks with diesel in some of the other countries I have worked in.
And 10,000pnds is not all that heavy. You get a big horse trailer full of animals and you are way beyond that. For instance you take a one ton with a tow package and they are rated to 18-19,000 pnds. Go to a 450, or 4500 heavy duty and you are up to 24,000 pnds towing.

We have a 2006 and its rated for 13,600 pounds. You go to the 3500 and that goes up to 17,000 pounds.
The only difference between them is a overload spring, and $800 option.

I drive a 2009 F150 Lariat crew cab and love it, however I would not drive it if I were woried about mileage. I get about 500km on the highway and alot less in the city and depending on gas prices it is a little costly.

And as far as mileage we get about 7-800km per tank, 135 liter tank. Thats from full to just under 1/4 tank left. The tattle tail says any where from 9l/100km to 12l/100km. We went for a long tour on the highway today and it averaged around the 11l/100km. I think these read a little lower than what you actually use but I have never calculated it exact.
I know one thing we got better mileage with the diesel towing a 29 foot holiday trailer than we did with the exact same truck with the hemi pulling nothing (work truck).
varies so much.
my 06 duramax only got like 400km to a tank.
my boss' 05 durmamax easily gets 700km and we haul a trailor with it half the day.
both are roughly same size tank

Well, I drove back today and didn't stop for gas keeping my fingers crossed and I got 700km to the tank. Cost me about $70 till fill from a quarter of a tank. Speed ranged from 90km to 125km. 90km when I saw 5.0 and 105km while in Ontario. Hit the Manitoba border and it was 120km all the way to the city.
All in all, a 2009 Silverado would be a nice addition to my garage. Thanks to all who responded.

Look south of the border in the next year and find one for cheap. Sub prime car loans are going bad, but even people with good credit are going to lose jobs this year.
I wouldn't finance it though unless you had a fixed rate.
