I have been shortchanging myself with water consumption. I currently drink about 2.5 ltrs a day right now. Trying to work up to 4 ltrs a day. This is the magic number I have heard to aim for.
1. should my 4 ltrs include water used with protein shakes throughout the day?
2. milk, I drink about 1/2 ltr of skim milk a day right now should I drink more/ less what do others drink daily?
Outside of this I start my day with a cup of coffee or two then its water/milk and thats about it.

Divide your weight (in pounds) by two. The resulting number is the number of ounces of water you need each day.

I drink 500ml as soon as I wake up, and with each meal not including my shakes. Its just a bitch that you have to go to the washroom every hour especially at work lol.

hydration may be more important for anabolic processes than previously thought. One day I asked pro bodybuilding legend Lee Labrada, what was the most effective performance enhancing bodybuilding supplement? His answer was shocking: Water! It’s interesting that most supplements marketed toward anabolism and muscle hypertrophy have a cell volumizing ingredient. Creatine has long been suspected to increase muscle hypertrophy by enhancing cell volumization which leads to greater anabolic processes8. Proteins, carbs, vitamins, minerals, fats, are necessary muscle growth and recovery but that are not going to work very well without one special ingredient…water! All biochemical reactions occur in water, and water is an active participant in those reactions. Water is the most important nutrient for ensuring optimal bodily functions. It is also the most overlooked. Without exception, every function of the body is tied to an optimum flow of water. A well-hydrated cell is a healthy cell and will result to overall greater anabolic processes. Water dilutes, dissolves and helps eliminate toxins and trash that could otherwise inhibit immune function, muscle recovery and growth.

I don't honestly believe that how much water you drink has much to do with anything..
You'll get alot of fluids from the foods that you eat throughout the day, if you're drinking shakes and milk even more from there... I think that as long as you're comfortable throughout the day you're all good.

hey i dont think that calculation makes much sense bro.... if im 200 lbs, that means id need 100 oz of water in a day, and there are 32 oz of water is equal to 1 liter water.... there for 100 divided by 32 is 3.125 liters? im drinking a minimum of 6 liters a day ...

I have now emptied a milk jug that I use for work. I am on shift work 8/9 hr days or afternoons and a weekly 16 hr to boot as well so its hard to pack enough quality foods as well as water to manage such a long day.

Casually drink a 500ML bottle with every meal, and then force yourself to chug one after the meal. There's 6 litres right there.. not counting the litres you'll be drinking at the gym!

I would like to see a scientific study on this. I hear many opinions but no evidence that the large volumes touted are required. As water is an excellent solvent you may be doing harm by removing nutrients from your system. I remember hearing one doctor on the radio say that the kidneys can only clean a specific amount out of your system on a daily basis and drinking huge volumes of water did NOT help flush out the system. Any real data would be appreciated.
