I think those guys are pretty good but look for some more info like: Retention times, completion %, if they censor, if you get SSL, and where their servers are located.

Depending on what your looking for that info could make a HUGE difference in how good the service is. Also the client you use plays a big role in how useful you will find newsgroups so make sure you have one that suits you.

I personally like http://www.newsdemon.com/ mostly because its cheap lol.

I would like to know more about this? this is news to me, Does this replace your loacal internet provider like bell or rogers for internet access?

I ask because I am with Bell and pay about 60$ a month for unlimited high speed dsl, I have a plan with Bell that they no longer provide, Unlimited. My speeds are great. I would love to know the high end of speeds you guys get?

newsgroups are for filesharing only, meaning you still have to have BELL or rogers to connect to the internet.

in laymans terms, newsgroups work like this: a company owns multiple servers, with terabytes of data. data is not hosted in files, but broken down into 0's and 1's, thats how they get around the legality issue. the client u use to connect to the newsgroup, has a certain "access code", which is basically what youre paying for. when you select a file to download, the client picks the right 0 and 1 from all the data, the access code allows you to re-compile the file on your own computer.

your download speed is riduculus (since you pay for it) and it usually maxes out your bandwith, so you download at 1MB/sec +, HD movies can be downloaded in about an hour

Great info? How would one go about finding, using this program to download a HD movie? Can this work with torrents?

I also just looked this torrent up that gives you the program for free?

no, this is completeley different from torrents.

try this link for more info:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Usenet_newsreaders

from what i understand, you get the Client for free (just like a bittorrent client), but you have to pay a newsgrup for access.

if you go to the newshosting website, the one SS suggests, they may have a FAQ you can read through.

Here's a guide:

http://www.slyck.com/Newsgroups_Guide

I use Newshosting (server), Alt.Binz or Grabit (programs) and NZBMatrix.com for nzb files.

I've used Usenet/Newsgroups for over 10+ years. MUCH faster than torrents.
