Just really been bugging me lately as i have been trying to go heavier, but when i am doing heavy barbell curls, not ez-curls just barbell curls my wrists feel like they want to snap or tear. cant notice it around the 90lb mark, but definately at 135lbs. I do wrist exercises to strengthen my wrists, but maybe i was thinking of wrist wraps, not really too sure but it is definately holding me back and wanted some advice. Thanks again guys

Use the ez curl bar,its safer for the wrist and keep those bb curl as your last ex for the bicep.

had a similar issue... try alternating between closer grip and wider grip... you'll eventually find a sweet spot...alternately, and this would apply to heavier weight, try not to keep strict form... a little bit of cheating, ie. if you do the curls with your back agains the wall to eliminate cheating, move away from the wall and allow your body to sway a little bit with the motion...this would come into effect if you're interested in the negative portion, so a bit of cheating to get the weight up, and then a VERY slow, controlled release to get a full stretch in the bi's

good luck

i used to get bad wrist pain when i was playing baseball down south in college...hitting, lifting weights..it was brutal. Started using hockey tape on my wrists, getting it nice and tight without cutting off circulation. does wonders...give it a try, costco sells the big rolls of hockey/athletic tape for cheap

I very known effect...and very familiar to me.

I am just wondering if you are running anything at the moment?

Elbow or wrist pain: Tennis elbow...there are many ways you can handle this situation, from supplements, drugs, to changing your workouts.

Replace the bar with dumbells.

like legaliz3 said, try to find your sweet spot and dont be afraid to use a tiny swing to get momentum on the bar on the way up, but just a little, as you dont want to be one of "those" guys lol
Let the bar down slow and controlled. Otherwise, switch to ez curl and even use ez curl on cables if you do that. Or dumbbells

Some people just can't use the straight bar for curls.. I'm one of them. I used to get serious pains in my forearms (splint pain) from it.

Like a few have mentioned already, you can switch to ez bar or dumbells.... but they won't isolate the same way.

I found by using the ez bar for preacher curls, it could just about isolate the same way the straight bar could.

If you have more time and/or patience, using dumbells on the preacher bench is also good. That way you can straighten out when you need to, but at the same time twist your wrists a bit to compensate for pain if it starts up.

I know how it can be frustrating... I was ready for more weight, but my forearms wouldn't allow it.. even with the dumbells.. started getting that damn splint pain again. Not much you can do but lower the weight and try to squeeze out the muscles more, thereby isolating the muscle group and hopefully getting an equally (or better) workout from it. It's either that, or sustain possible permanent injury from not listening to your body.

If you are training heavy...which is what is necessary for growth than switch to the EZ curl bar and wrap your wrists on the heavy sets. Also chalk helps with keeping a good grip on the bar.

.

Strange, I find dumbells are way superior. I tend to use more shoulder strength when using a bar even when keeping my shoulders back. Just curious why you say dumbells won`t isolate the biceps the same way. If anything I find they isolate them more because they`re force to contract equally or you can do them alternated making them work even harder. Could just be a personal preference.

I had a feeling when I posted that I should have been more specific. I just meant the movement with the straight bar isolates differently than DBs and the EZ curl bar.. because it's a different arm position, it hits the biceps (and forearms) differently... I find it gets the muscles underneath, and helps with overall size and height.. that's why I suggested using the preacher bench, since I find it is similar in isolation as the straight bar.
