So I have been sort of curious about joining the military. I was kinda thinking infantry, but I really dont want to be a sitting duck for some dude with a camel full of explosives.

The recruiter I talked to said something like the navy is hiring like crazy right now. It sounds kinda neat, but what would I really be doing for the next 4 years? Being stuck on a boat with a bunch of dudes and nothing to do?

Any jobs worth applying for that would keep me near say larger populations. Preferably tons of sexy foriegners.

I've never been in the navy, but expect to travel a lot, but also spend a lot of time with no privacy and only clear blue seas to look at. If you don't mind that, go for it, you'll have the time of your life. Otherwise, opt for the more "unionized" element, air force. Keeping a normal life in the AF is easier. But if you're looking for a real challenge without being overly suicidal, army has some neat non-front line jobs

Must be brave souls to join the military in these times. We are heading down fast in world stability. There are definitely a lot of pros and cons in joining at this time. You just have to see which side out weighs the other.

i was going to , but didnt :/ have friends that did, infantry is the most fun, but you can get a decent education, mechanic techy shit.

navy is ****ing gay, navy is for 17 year old retards, **** the ****ign navy you'll wnt to kill yourself.

rcmp is hiring but they have the worst politics as i hear.

and airforce is ok, my brother was a para trooper or some shit, pretty safe

Aren`t infantry guys like front line soldiers for war? That means living in shitty conditions and can forget about training and eating.

Yeah but it's also the most exciting. The other stuff is just plan old boring reserve type shit. You might see a little action in navy. Maybe.

But if you want action it's armed forces. If you really want action join now. You'll be fightingthe Pakistanis/ Tribesman/ Talibani/ Jihadist come lately in 6-12 mths down the road and dodging US "friendly" fire in mountains made and designed by Satan himself. And those mountains are the bets part of that part of the world. The regular cities are absolute shit holes and incredibly stressful...but hey it's all fun,

Well all that infantry adventure stuff would be good fun and all if we were fighting a nicer country, but I would rather not go to a shithole like the middle east unless I am always on the base.

Lifting doesnt matter much to me for right now since I recently took up boxing, and I can no longer lift since I will have to lose a lot of weight. I am starting to like it and would rather a job where I could keep it up.

LMFAO.

As opposed to fighting ...ohhh let's say Paradise Island? Any war zone turns into a shit hole.

Unless some major shit goes down, we'll be stuck in Afghan region for a long time. So if you are sent to fight/'peace keep' it will be in that region and if Obama gets his way (and Harper will gladly swallow), in Pakistan. And that will be ugly.

Then again if Iran and Israel go at it you might end up there once the radiation clears.

I know a guy who went through the RCMP testing and was in his early fifties. He made it over other potential recruits, but opted not to go in the end.

I was told they do a modified version of the rcmps (or city police) polygraph pre-screen, this was like one or two years ago. I believe It is after the first aptitude test.

I was thinking of joining years ago so they would pay for my university, and I looking to military police and engineering officer. Both are jobs where you have to use your head and not just follow orders.

No matter what job you ar ein you'll always be following orders. Escpecially MP's.

MPO can't be that bad, you only answer to written directives from ottawa and the wing/base commander

oooooooh meat head or whistle head. I wonder where people get the impression we are mindless drones in the infantry? I used to think a lot, and was always encouraged to use my initiative in the field.

of course and dont get me wrong. But face it, as an infantry soldier, you will be following direct specific orders most of the time.

As an engineering officer, you will get an order to demo a building, to put up a bridge, to make an air strip, etc, etc etc. and then you think it out how to make it happen. Pretty cool if you ask me.

As a MP, you will have a general order, and then you make it happen.

Dont get me wrong, if you are a retard in the infantry, you will probably not survive long, so intelligence is required, but it is more micro managed with a tighter chain of command. And rightly so. It is important.

From what I've seen the MP's are the biggest meatheads of all. I was going through to be a combat engineering officer but I changed my mind. I think it would have been cool, but not for me.

Exactly. Most peole who avoid the infantry aren't really ready to scrap it out with filthy dirty terrorists. So they want the "for sure" thing where they want tution paid with no risks. Screw that. Once you get into a firefight, and the worse it is, the more you'll love it. You ain't going back to anything else but infantry.

Infantry probably has the most freedom and leeway of them all. It's the 'field' . You're on your own with your troops where decisins are made quick.

But you'll always have some asshole sending down orders. It's just the way it is. You can be in some remote outpost in the Artic and some higher up will be sending you 'initiatves' all the time.
