It looks like Ill be in van in the next few weeks, relocating long term.

Any good places to look at for gyms ni the yaletown/downtown area?

And if anyone lives in the area, have any leads on apartments for rent?

Thanks for any info!

Gold's burnaby is too far for him if hes living dt. may be fun for a weekend excursion.

Gib you basically got 4 choices for dtown gyms. There are a few fitness worlds (you can find online locations), World Gym- Yaletown and Robson (but id imagine quite pricey and make you sign up long term) and then Pantheon Gym which is a little more bodybuilder friendly.
whats your price range/location for apartments or condos....im involved a bit in the property management industry.

UBC, if i get something for under 1000 id be happy. I have found a few places online in the area (waiting to hear back from them), but always up for other options?

*edit* for location I want to be walking or riding distance from the foot of Burrard. ANd i dont mind hoofing it if it saves me driving in downtown traffic...

I live dt vancouver and for the love of god...Stay the hell away from fitness world they are a joke and everyone hates them who knows of them, they're all contract and a ripoff.

If anyone has a good recommendation for a gym plz say it I'd really like to find a good one to as I'm in the process of finding a new one to train at also. I'm thinking of just going to a community center if no one pip's up and gives a solid rec. No way I'm going back to fitness world, or those busy "bosu=the best piece of equipment int he gym" places lol.

Seeya!!!!!!!

at the foot of burrard bridge (downtown side) on pacific avenue there is a community/aquatic centre that has a gym.
I would say downtown:
1. Pantheon Gym
2. Steve Nash Sports Club
3. World Gym Yaletown
4. World Gym Robson

Gib ill have a look in the rental department of a few brokerages i know and see whats shaking ...but youll prob have to be on the west side of burrard if you wanna find a 1bdrm under 1k...yaletown, concord pacific units are all much more

Hey bud, yea i was looking mostly to the west of burrard, not sure if that is considered yaletown or what, but its close to where ill be working so i wont have to drive!

Thanks a lot for any help! Ive found a few rental companies online which show a few spots in my price range that look decent, but if I can help you get some commission ill wait a bit to see if you have anything!

I will say however they have updated since 06 LOL!.

What they will have....

1.) Lots of dumb kids who stare...

2.) Lots of bosu balls

3.) Lots of people doing everything wrong and you waiting to see them kill themselves doing.

4.) contracts locking you in for 2 years minimum, their sales people are dirt bags...Let me elaborate.

I had a serious medical condition for 6 months where I went down to 184 pounds and im 220 k. They wouldn't stop my contract, freeze it till i returned or anything so I had to pay for the gym for 6 months while i didn't use it at all.

5.) Almost no benchs to work out on, and also since they can lift more with terrible form they love to talk to you randomly saying how to lift more, and a bunch of other silly random tips that make no sense.

6.) No capacity limit on how many memberships they accept, so you could have literally 5 people waiting for the two benches in the center of the room, and get fked up stares since they can lift more with bad form..Woo that was fun..

7.) Doing any Squats, Deads, military presses with a barbell = Your the new outcast :) and shit like, "DON'T HURT YOUR BACK DOING THAT HEH"

8.) If you don't wear tight tight pants and a super tight shirt you aren't one of the cool guys like the trainers are (lol).

9.) Lack of space, money grabs, and....drumm roll please.

One of the hot trainer's Female was walking around the gym like a server with tiny little shot glasses of protein shake for the guys in the weight section to try...

If you can get past that all then it's the gym for you!

Denman Fitness is not bad.. IF you can handle the fact that there are tons of gay guys...
The dumbells go up to 120 I think but most importantly, it is big and has sufficient free weights...Never have to wait really.
I used to work out in the morning, which was cool. Since i have this new job, I go at night a am quite annoyed by the crowd... but the gym is fine and its almost next door to me.

Screw Fitness world. I went there once.. hahahahahahahaha. still laughing about the bunch of numbnuts there.

I'm going to check out Denman fitness... seems to be what I'm looking for... within walking distance. Is it TOO crowded in the evenings or you just don't like the type of crowd?

I got back to Van in April and signed up at World Gym on robson. I LOVED it there... great staff... always quiet... LOTS of free weights NEVER waited. But two weeks ago I show up to a closed facility with a sign saying to go to yaletown location. Apparently their lease ran out and to renew was too expensive... so they're done for good.

So I get a one week pass to 24 HR Fitness World on Bute... worked out yesterday... WHAT A JOKE!!! Never felt so crammed in! The weight area was packed at 11pm! Could hardly move without bumping into people. So many morons working out there loading up weight and lifting with brutal form. Weight trees were a disaster, all disorganized and not enough plates available. Dumbbells only to 70lb. Not a weight lifter friendly gym at all. I'm not going back even though I got a week free.

Anyway, sorry for the vent... just a horrible experience there and frustrated that my beloved World Gym is closed... I'll check out Denman thanks for the info.

Well, It does get full there right after everybody gets off work, but nothing too serious. Even in prime time, I barely have to ever wait. I just personally like it empty ( who doesn't). Well, the crowd.. lack of girls and a happy community of middle aged men that don't care about girls..

Yes empty is ideal... I've always gravitated towards those types of gyms and why I asked you about your comment about the evening crowd. Was freakin horrified by fitness world it blows my mind how people can work out like that.

Yeah I hear ya on the denman community... seeing hotties at the gym is never a bad thing but I'm all business at the gym anyway... the happy middle aged men won't concern me :) Spoke with a staff member on the phone and she was real nice/helpful... I'll be checking it out tonight or tomorrow!

So I went to Denman Fitness for a workout last night. VERY IMPRESSED. Spacious weight area... nice and quiet... SOLID free weight selection.

Not your glitzy Steve Nash type gym but I never liked that style anyway. For the hardcore, old school weightlifter... Denman Fitness is a great choice.
