View Full Version : what kind of phone?
ok so my LG shine keeps ****ing up on me and wont turn on.
3rd time ive sent it in in 2 months. Only reason i sent it in this time is because i need it fixed to get all my numbers back.
Soon as shes back though im gettin a new one.
I kinda want a blackberry strictly for Instant messeging and built in facebook. but i dont even know where to start, i also heard when you get a BB they charge you for random shit that I wont ever use like the data plan, so my phone bill is gonna like double (its usually 90 ish now)
So basically i need a phone that is good for texting (not a fan of those flip your phone open and its a keyboard things), internet(facebook) and thats about it.
Im with telus

I have a BB Bold and love it. The only thing I do not like is the battery life sucks. Not sure about cost as mine is paid for by my company. But you do not need to get the data plan if you don't want it. Essentially it will act as a phone.

I have the blackberry storm. Touchscreen and is the best phone for texting and facebook there is I think. As well as browsing the web etc. It is not as good for actual phoning and can be cumbersome. Takes getting used to for phoning.
I have the maxed out plans and can pretty much call as much as I want, and browse unlimited, unlimited texts, and do whatever, and I am coming in around $180 I think.
YOu do not need as much plan as me, as I use this for business too, and if you do not browse you do not need much of a data plan. I will even watch youtube videos and porn on mine.

both the BB and Iphone are great. I own an Iphone and the apps you can get are awesome. Texting is not a problem either, and the big screen is great.

i'm with jmonkey, wait for the niagra(they might change the name of it too btw. it will be a cross between a curve and a bold).
i have had almost every BB so far. i do alot of texting, email & FB on it. that said, i dont feel the same about the storm as wade does. i absolutely hated it and if you check the reviews on it you'll see a lot of others feel the same way. i think the storm has great potential but there are still some major bugs to be worked out. if you plan on using your berry on a job site or any environment besides a desk or sofa i would strongly caution against getting one. as well, for me the touch screen was a burden as i always had to make sure my fingers were clean before touching it - which makes it a pain if you are eating, preparing food, or working in any type of filth. just my 2cents.
as far as plans, i have no idea, mine is wrapped into a company account. i know Bell is very competitive but their costumer service pales in comparison to Telus.

But seeing as how yah i do use it alot at work, itll be will dirty as hell in no time, because i work outside on job sites. And that cancels out the pearl to, because i guess dirt gets in the little ball and ****s it

The Niagra won't be hitting shelves until mid summer. Telus is doing like they did with the Storm and building the hype for it and then shipments will be delayed. Just FYI, you're looking at blackberry for bb msgr and facebook and say you won't use data, but both those apps are data services. BUT, with Bell you can get unlimited data for $30/month or get a smartphone combo plan for $35 which includes 500mb and all your minutes (more than enough for the avg user). Blackberry makes up nearly 50% of all our sales, which is incredible considering the other 6-7 brands make up the other 50%. Just do it and you won't regret it.

As far as protective cases, invest in an Otter Box. Best money you can spend when you're working on job sites.
