FDA Recalls Diet Pill Hydroxycut After Reports of Liver Damage, Health Problems

Friday, May 01, 2009
Associated Press

WASHINGTON — Government health officials are announcing the recall of popular weight loss pill Hydroxycut, after reports of liver damage and other health problems.

Food and Drug Administration officials said Friday the manufacturer of Hydroxycut has launched a nationwide recall of the dietary supplement, used by people trying to shed pounds and by body builders to sharpen their muscles.

Hydroxycut is advertised as made from natural ingredients. It accounts for about 90 percent of the market for weight loss supplements, with sales of about 1 million bottles a year.

Dietary supplements are not as tightly regulated by the government as medications. Manufacturers don't need FDA approval ahead of time before marketing their products.

Geeze, I was close to buying this stuff...

What's a good alternative besides an ECA stack?

What BS. 23 people have liver damage out of the millions and millions of people that use this product and it's the products fault.his accelerated it. I wonder if these people are taking the supplement with a bottle of wine or a six pack of beer. Or quite possibly were having liver problems before and this accelerated the problems.

Anyone here ever heard of Que She? It's supposed to work well but I don't know anyone who has used it. Has anyone here tried hydroxycut before? does it work?

Not to trivialize the situation, and maybe there is a legit reason to pull those products, but I have to wonder something. Since there is allegedly one death associated with the taking of this products (and we are unaware of the circumstances) I wonder when the FDA and it's Canadian associates will be pulling alcohol and tobacco from the shelves too?
