you know not of what you speak.

when you reach for a puck and try to avoid getting hit, you're gonna get hurt. ovechkin is not known for cheap shots, and the hit would have been clean if he didnt bitch out and try to avoid it.

^^im not even sure what that means but its exactly what i said right after it happened, and its exactly what Don Cherry said about it as well. Reaching for the puck to avoid a hit is both stupid and dangerous. If he had braced himself properly from the hit and leveraged himself near enough the boards, the glass would have taken the most abuse from that run.

You can have a conversation with someone without needing to sound like an arrogant sarcastic prick.

And you can have one without sounding like an arrogant **** who thinks he's done something in the sport but, well, hasn't. Give us a ring when you make pro.

Really, though, my initial comment was a joke as I knew you'd come flying on your high horse to defend your lover. :D

Dude, you really have no idea what you're talking about or have any clue as to my insight and or ability. You made the same dumb ass comment that other people have made who clearly have little if any knowledge of what they talk about and I called you on it. When you have NCAA players seeking your advice on training and nutrition I will value what you have to say about the sport of hockey.

As for me turning pro, thats almost as stupid as what you originally said. I guess you shouldnt give any advice on BB training, nutrition or cycles as you have yet to turn pro. Give us a ring on the board when you do.

I don't see you offering up any advice on hockey training or nutrition in this thread? You ASSume I am serious with my comments and went right on the attack spewing your usual "you don't know anything about hockey" rhetoric all out of a simple comment.

Had you asked if I was serious I would have replied nahh, just trying to get your goat cause I know how much you like the guy.

Grow a thicker skin and stop saying anyone who didn't make it past house league (I played Junior B, btw - not that it matters) is a cluseless moron about the sport itself OR training/nutrition methods for the sport.

A great number of people out there have never played but still know more about it than a lot who did play, played at a high level and who still play. Playing doesn't equal knowledge. Just like you don't need to be a competitive BB'er to be a world class trainer/nutritionalist - Chris Aceto and Chad Nichols for example...

Now, get all hot and bothered again, puff out your chest (how's that coming btw? lol) and make your childish comments about I know nothing or when I have NCAA players seeking my advise on nutrition and training then you will value my opinion. I\ll let you have the stage alll to yourself :)

Crosby has actually really impressed me with his intensity level thus far in the playoffs. I didnt expect such an impressive response but he has stepped it up for sure.

^^ thats a fair question. I tend to be a bit harsh on old sid because of his actions early on in his career. he played the "im gretzky, dont you dare touch me" card almost right away. he has his moments and is pretty consistent, but lacks the pure goal scoring ability that ovechkin has. an assist is not as important as a goal, despite what people say. he has scored some very important goals and made up for the lack of contributions from staal and malkin so far in this series. i like the kid, i just want him to tone down his wining a little bit.

Alright, our pissing match earlier aside because now we're talking actually hockey...

I'm curious about this statement
but lacks the pure goal scoring ability that ovechkin has. an assist is not as important as a goal, despite what people say.

Mike Bossy set the standard as a "pure goal scorer" and most would contend that Gretzky did not have pure goal scoring ability yet 92, 71, 87 and 73 in addition to his countless 50 and 60 goal scoring seasons might suggest otherwise.

So was Gretzky a pure goal scorer or not? And do his 1,963 assists discount him as the greatest player ever?

^^ this debate is somewhat pointless IMO. Gretzky is the best player ever on paper, nobody can contest that. As for him being the most talented I would disagree. Gretzky scored a shitload of goals, but he also did most of it in the 80's and early 90's when goalie equipment was much smaller, there was no formal defensive strategy being applied (like the "trap"), and the clutching and grabbing had not really come into effect yet. experts argue that NHL goaltending is one of if not THE MOST improved position in professional sports in the last 20 years. the level of athletic ability and intelligence these players possess has advanced faster and more effectively than any other sport. the players that exist now are tough to compare to back then because it literally is a different game, with different rules and standards. i dont think having a lot of assists discounts anyone for anything, and they still count towards point totals obviously, but an assist does not win a game. great assists surely set up goals and can make them seem effortless to finish, but the finish is still the most important. i would rather have a linemate who scores 50+ goals a year than one who gets 30+ with double the assists.

In my opinion the most talented and valuable player to ever set foot on the ice is Mario Lemieux.

Fair enough and I agree it is very difficult to compare different era's in the sport just like those comparing Gretzky to Howe.

Interesting comment

I'm sure the guy who got 50 goals was very happy the other play got double the assists as without the assist the goal would not have happened. Very rarely do you have pure end to end play that requires no assistance from others to get the goal. I'd contend the setup is just as important as the finish.

In my opinion the most talented and valuable player to ever set foot on the ice is Mario Lemieux.

And I'd say the most talented and valuable player to ever set foot on the ice was Bobby Ore but what do I know ;)
