As I posted earlier, I am getting involved in IPSC and have recently purchased a 1911 style handgun to compete.
Last weekend I got my first taste and got my Black Badge certification for holster draw and IPSC safety and procedure. I had the time of my life and got in about 500 rounds this weekend.
I think I am really going to enjoy this hobby.
This is the kind of shit we were doing. I am mad I didn't bring my video camera.

How hard was it to get the restricted permit for the handgun?
Its easy, its (I think) an additional 8 hours of class time for getting your long gun license. Well worth it too, as shooting is fun as balls.
I have heard some bad things about IPSC matches though, people thinking they are rambo there and taking it WAY too seriously. But i guess you find that everywhere so wahtever

I have a Tanfoglio model L in .40. I went with the smaller frame because it was easier to draw and sight with. My next is a witness 1911. I like the tanfoglio line, and have no qualms about referring them to people.

I have had restricted for some time. Back in the FAC days I bought my first handgun, so not sure about todays laws. I challenged the FAC course test back in the day for rifles and handguns. Scored 98% with out paying for the course. I think you can still challenge the course.

Oh yes, there is some serious dudes in this sport, but they break it up into skill levels, and classes. Production class (double action stock guns), Standard class (single action with size restriction), and open class (anything goes (hardcore)) also by power factor,( minor and major).
In each class they have divisions by skill. I do not recall exactly, but basically you compete against people your own skill level.
It is well done, and very "beginner friendly". That being said, if you can shoot, you are better then 60% of the people there. I did one stage and scored high enough to put me in a top class in Standard. I also ****ed up a few too though LOL Its all good.

I like Tanfoglio too, but ended up buying a Para-ordnance 16-40 Limited in .40S&W.
Next gun will be a STI 38 super
i like M4 Carbine and the .50 Sniper rifle.
(only ever used them in COD, but awesome weapons none the less)

Wade how hard would is it to get a hold of AR-15's in Canada these days?
I'm looking on buying one in a year or so once I decide where I am moving to.
You can still buy rifles built from the AR-15 platform. Actually, so long as the conservatives stay in power your gun rights are safer than other parties.
Now, if Obama goes on his gun rampage then Canada may be pressured to follow suit, as Canadian politics always seem to mirror that is done south of the border.
In short, yes you can buy AR's, but id buy one sooner than later as prices are going up, and restrictions will probably get tighter with time...

What are some of the prices on these guns? Is there an online store in Canada that sells so I can see the prices. It seems to be something I would like to get into in the future.

Gib is correct about the AR's and the impending legal strife.
The prices vary Spitfire. Depends what you want to do. YOu could get in IPSC for $1000 and then only have to buy ammo and pay for match fees. Or you could spen $7000 on a handgun, $1500 on reloading equipment, $1000 on gear, and go to every match and drop $15000 on match fees and travel expense. I personally have spent under $3000 and am quite set up. I got me some nice shit.
I intend to do all local matches, and maybe one or two out of town matches for the experience.
It is not a cheap past time, but **** is it ever cool.
I will get some video one day of a match or a club night and post it up

People thought having a black (half black, 1/4 jew, 1/4 white) president would be "cool" and now they have fascism in their country.
Time to stock up on ammo north of the border before the bleeding hearts take over here.
