View Full Version : LIFTING TUNES?

Solo59

Okay, boys, my old jazz and singer-songwriter stuff no longer fires up my urge to lift iron. Anyone have any suggestions for more rugged or even violent music that will light my fires? (No rap or hip-hop, please. Heavy metal is okay if there is some variation in the sound or the words can actually be heard. Neo-punk is great.):D

I absolutely love stone temple pilots and various songs off the 2 velvet revolver CD`s. Gets me cranked every time. After my first body part I may then switch to some Anthony pappa, Darren Emerson (Uraguay CD`s the best), Deep Dish maybe some old was not was, fafa monteco, Beasty boys with different tunes off cd`s that were recorded live in the afterhours here. Format B is pretty good, saeed and palash, peace division is another good one.

Depends... I'd prefer no music at all if that would be possible..
But my gym, located in the heart of vancouver downtown plays the worst lifting music.
Britney spears, YMCA and other horrible stuff.
Need silence for complex, heavy lifts such as deadlifts, squats etc so I take it off for the set.
Music: Rage against the machine and that genre .. gets me angry and aggresive

I need music for my workouts, I hate listening to myself grunt.
I like high energy music when I lift.
lately its been Rammstein, its all in german, so I have no idea what they are saying, but I like the tunes.

Some use music to block out the distractions....

The kid on the bench next to you dropping 155lb on his chest because he swears he did it last week to his friends

The girl doing stiff leg deadlifts in the power rack next to you with the nice ass...

The 25% bodyfat guy yelling at the top of his lungs because he dumbbell pressed 75s whippedoda

Some good bands there!!!
Marilyn Manson - "This is the new shit" has a very high energy, aggresive sound. Awesome on a leg day

I would also suggest Parkway Drive - Horizons, to those who enjoy some hard music.

All this dark metal: I'd leave with a low throbbing headache and an upset stomach. No variation in the dirt bottom bass & rhythm lines can lead to lower IQs! Each to his own, of course.

Been playing a lot of Muddy Waters & John Lee Hooker heavier tunes but noticed my power increased listening to Patti Smith's "Rock N Roll ******" (she calls all social outcasts by that forbidden term), L7's "Shitlist", and Nine Inch Nail's "Burn". Need some rock rage but w/o the monotony of metal.

Studies have been conducted with soft, heart felt music like Neil Diamond and Barry Manilow to ease tension in the muscle bellies and contribute to a better sync between type 2 and 3 fibres. Allowing for more explosive lifts.

I would suggest either of their greatest hits for greater gains.

I think you can push yourself more if you can get in the mood and get pumped up for a lift. Always fast tunes for me at the gym.

Something that starts out mild and then kicks in hard is the best. I Start my reps right when it kicks in!

Disciple - Rise Up
Drowning Pool - All over me
Sick Puppies - My World

Destroy The Runner - From The Red

Been listening to Gojira recently. Shit's heavy.. singer mixes it up a bit which I like, isn't always screaming.

Other than that, usually go back to DNB... it's hard to find good DNB though, man so much of it sounds the same. Trance, same thing.. after a while it just grates my nerves... I need progression in the music I listen to or I get distracted by the monotony of it.

I feel bad for some of you guys. I've almost always worked out at good gyms or worked at the gym so I just changed the music to suit my taste. When I tried to listen to music on an ipod a few times I got too distracted by it. For some reason I like to be able to hear whats going on around me, so I listen to whatever is playing at the gym.
