View Full Version : Thougths on the Anderson Silva Title Fight?

what did you all think of the ANderson Silva / Thales Leites fight?
the fans really let them have it - not happy.
Most of the people I was watching the event with too - were not impressed. I guess I was not that impressed myself - though I still think Anderson Silva is a great guy to watch. No one fights like he does. when hes in there, he looks so relaxed, like its no big deal, hes just having fun, playing around. its as if, he alreay knows he is going to win, kind of like if any of us, fought a 12 year old. you would like play around with him (that didn't come out right...) and have a good time in the ring.
though I did feel, he could have ended it earlier, and it did look like he went easy on him?
where was the classic Silva 'grab the back of the guys head' and knee him in the face stuff? there was hardly any clinching, or 'dirty' boxing.
though I don't think Thales was a good opponent for him to put a good show on. everytime they got close, he would fall down - trying to coax Anderson into the ground game.
thats two fights in a row that the fans were not happy with Silva
could we see a Silva vs. GSP fight??

Silva didnt seem to want to go to the ground with him. likely why we didnt see the clinch work as it would open the door. he was still precise and pulled out some impressive moves but i admit, i'd like to see a lot more 'fighting' in a title match.
on another note....glad to see chuck get finished. he's a legend but his time has passed. nice to have shogun back.

Silva completely outclassed him. i dont think you can blame him for the way the fight went. I was watching an interview with dana white and he said he would make the GSP Silva fight happen

Silva handled him and did what he had to do to win. He didn't trade blows with the guy but he didn't need to. Thales wasn't ready for Silva and won't be ready for a few fights. Now Silva and GSP is a fight that will be impressive. Two guys that love to fight who have an effective stand up and ground game. Plus they're both around the same weight when they step in the ring.

It was a boring fight. But sometimes it happens.
To me Booing was getting a lil rediculous. Especially when Rogan was interviewing Silva. Knowing that Leites is a world Champion BJJ, Silva stuck to his gameplan and punished him in the standup. Leites was not willing to trade and resorted to pulling gaurd whenever Silva got in a groove. You really can't blame the Champion when his opponent is only just trying to survive, instead of making a fight out of it.
Shogun is back and he is going to tear through the LHW division. I hope to see him fight Rampage for a rematch.

I never watched the fight but Chucky was pretty defensive of Anderson in the post fight press conference.

Bump, i think this will happen also...probably in the near future as well..
I was disappointed in the main event, i felt Silva did just enough to win. After all the talk about him being upset with his performance against Cote, i thought he would come out fighting and make it more exciting. Oh well, GSP will certainly put more pressure on Silva than that...

I don't think Silva even considered him a challenge. Almost seemed bored to be there,
Even being a BB, i don't think he'd be TOO much of threat on ground, as Silva has sick ground to. To bad, was just boring fight. Seems sooo little are a challenge for Silva

If you are right and the GSP/Anderson happens, Anderson will be in for a long ass night if GSP comes in like his last couple fights and Anderson has taken him lightly.

At this point, I don't think anyone would take GSP lightly.

Anderson beats GSP easily. It doesn'tlook it but Silva is a lot bigger than GSP and fights often at 205.
Seen the fight live the crowd was chatting GSP when the fight was on haha.Next time anyone wants to save money just wait for about 30minutes after the show start and the guy outside were letting there tickets go for 50-100/each and this was for Floor seats and 100 level.

Silva beats GSP for sure. If he loses I'd be completely shocked.

I was there, and felt pretty bad for Silva.. the crowd was hammering him.
I'm not an mma fighter or anything like that... but here's my take on the fight.
Leites went into the fight dead set on going to the ground and not standing up. Silva went in, dead set on standing. Leites couldn't take Silva down, and Anderson couldn't engage Leites as he simply just ran away, or kept moving back.
Silva wanted to counter punch, and would only throw when he knew he'd connect.
Leites was trying to frustrate Silva into making some mistakes... and hopefully goading him into going to the ground. Silva knew it, and wouldn't play into his hand.
Techniacally, like that, the fight was kinda cool... but just looked boring to the fans...
BUT... I was there... and the majority of the fans, at least where i was in the 300's were literally some of the dumbest humans I've ever had to be close to... so I wouldn't really care too much about the fans...

GSP and Silva could go either way no doubt. Silva owns the striking, GSP owns wrestling and GNP.
Thats if GSP can get through Thiago Alves and that one very hard task. If the odds are good enough I would bet on Alves.

That's exactly how it looked to me, too. I wasn't there, but it came across the same way watching it on my computer. Silva stuck to his game plan, and I don't see what else he could have done other than taking dumb risks. If you want to see what happens to top fighters who take dumb risks, just look at Liddell's recent career.

no one can argue that. he's there to win, the fans are there to see an exciting title fight. both are justified.

The world would be a better place if he jumps up to 205lbs!

Thats....
The one move that caught my interest.
Man Brazilians are good at soccer. I have never seen anyone in MMA get punched on the thigh while standing. Even worse Leites wasn't able to counterpunch or kick while Silva reached in to punch his thigh.
I am wondering if this was a show me the money act from Anderson.
