Hey guys, I was wondering what is the best method to remove the test powder from a sterile sealed package in preparation for conversion.?

since its powder I can't just draw out but I dont want to open it completely and expose it to possible contaminants in the air.

Whats your guys methods?

open that baby up, the powder is not sterile anyway. ist only sterile after filtering into a sealed vial.

use PVDF filters, and .20 for water based, .45 for oil.

Far from sterile, you'll find more things in raws then you believe. you have to do treatment yourself to get to sterile, just leave a small hole in bag, or just dump in a nice plastic jar that's big enough or Thick good quality big baggie to hold how many kilos you need. and you can dump how many kilos till done or keep topping..
Or if you want to, just make ALL and get some big beakers that seal, so all you do is just add to vials when ready.. so many ways, one can do, when i made my cycles, i liked to have all made in big glass sterile jars, and pour in sterile vials, ohhh good ol days when on cycle for years steady ;) lol, now i need raws..heheh make a cycle...haha

.45 sounds too big to me. My understanding was .22 was required to remove most of the bacteria with most bacteria rangib from .2 to 2 microns.

I found an interesting quote "Laboratories consider filtering medium with an effective pore size of 0.1 micron to be bacteriologically sterile and .45 micron to 1.0 micron to be bacteriologically safe."

hmm, when used more, .45 was the norm for oils and the .22um was for all waters.
but use a quality filter, some raws are sooo shitty, almost seems like it's eating the fibers in filter. i guess you see all kinds.. whatmans, seems great. or many of the pvdf styles i've see, were fairly lame.... so all you need is filter

lots use .45, but i think the trend is to go smaller. It is likely overkill, but why not right? It will take a lot longer to filter....

Remember that you are adding BA as a preservative too.

Good to know about shitty raws out there that mess up filters.

.45 is perfectly fine for oil. NEVER had a problem and I brew everything.

Bro,it depends on the thickness of the bag. What i do if the bag is very thin and can tear easily,i just put it in a solid ziplock bag and store it in the fridge in the back.If it came in a thick unsealable one what i do is cut open the top with scissors and shake out what i need then i take a candle lighter and reseal the cut part by heating them back together.

As for the filtres i have always used .45 ones. The .22 take too long unless you are willing to invest in one of those vaccuum thingys where it pumps it out itself and forces it through the filtre
