View Full Version : Achy Knees

Hey guys, I was wondering if any of you could help me figure out what's going on with my knees.

For some reason, they've been aching constantly for the past 2 weeks, to the point where I can hardly bend my knees to do push-presses anymore, and squats are out of the question - I tried to push through it but I actually collapsed on my 1st rep of my 2nd set. I have had some problems with my knees in the past, and was actually tested for Rheumatoid arthritis at age 17 (negative), but pain has never persisted for more than a few days.

I finished up my first cycle 2 weeks ago (12 weeks Test E @ 500mg/wk), and started PCT today (Nolva @ 40/20/20/20 mg ED, Aromasin 25/25/25/12.5 mg ED).

Initially, I thought that maybe my estrogen levels were too low, but I'm not sure how that could be as I only used arimidex @ 0.5mg EOD for 6 weeks on cycle and then decided I didn't need it. Also, none of my other joints are aching besides my knees.

Any and all input greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!

Have you tried glucosomine? And maybe you can use knee wraps to help you out..

do you do the seated calf raise where the pad is resting on/right above your knees? that use to cripple me for the longest time. solved the problem by not training calves ever again.

^^this will help if taken consistently.

also this time of year with the barometric pressure it can cause havoc on various parts of your body if you are susceptible. i have been having consistent headaches over the last couple weeks due to this issue.

definatly try the glucosomine. If you can get it in liquid for even better. that stuff works miracles.

Try a strength test. First off get someone else. Lie down with your legs in a 90degree (as if you are sitting). Then get the other person to push on your knee as if they want to push your leg flat. If you collapse, you've got a problem, if not.. well it's something else.

Awesome, thanks guys.

I did actually get strength tests done on my knee, since I thought it might have been a ligament/tendon injury but the physio said I was just fine.

I've also been taking fish oil daily, 10g (1.8g EPA, 1.2g DHA in total) but not the glucosamine. I'll definitely give that a try.

For dosage, do you think the 'recommended amount' on the bottle is enough?

Actually, it's funny you say this because I sometimes get minor joint aches/pains from this too. Doesn't help that I actually go to university/the gym on top of a mountain. Not a big one, but big enough that sometimes there's snow at school when it's raining in the city.

Id guess patellar tracking - either your vastus lateralis (outer quad) or vastus medialis (inner quad) has proportionally gotten stronger or weaker than the other and your pattella has more tension on one side than the other. This caused friction on the tibial tuberosity and leads to knee pain.

This is interesting, especially for me as my knees are screwed up. Would I be right in assuming that most of us have over developed outer quads compared to our inner quads? What do you suggest for focusing on inner quads?

TBH Im not 100% sure. MY entire life I was a really active kid, played competitive hockey, did alot of running, did alot of plyometric training etc - well a few years after I stopped playing hockey and started running heavy equipment (and stopped weight training completely due to a few nagging injuries) my knees for no apparaent reason began to turn to shit.

Well ive been running distance, sprints @ track, stairs, doing some light squats, and generally just being more active and they have improved alot.

With respect to strengthening your inner quad maybe try turing your toes more forward when your squatting, even if it means using lighter weight. Also, leg extensions work the medialis more than the lateralis.

You are feeling achy now because the support (gear) is coming out and when you have support you may not feel any chronic damage you are doing. Make sure your squat is correct and you are not leading with the knees...very common. Also take omega 3 fish oils bythe handful....work up to 20-30 per day.
Ice will help as well aspecialy after training. Pennsaid is a topical lotion prescribed to arthritis patients....it works wonders on the knees....ask your Dr for a script...he should give it you withotu question. Adequan is also a life saver...1cc EOD for 4 weeks or so will cure any joint issues.

Oh Please!!

Lots of good advise here except for the above quote... I had a similiar situation, when i was at my chiro's i mentioned that my knee was bothering me and he suggested to go and see podiatrist.. Sure enough it was a foot issue, i had custom ortho's put in all my foot wear.. It took a couple months but i have not had a knee issue since. Just something else you might want to look into...

Is a prescription required for adequan? Is it done IM? I have tried Alflutop in the past with little results. Maybe I didn't go long enough with it, ED injections for 21 days done IM.

Wow, thanks bros there's a lot of great advice here!
With respect to squats I can't honestly say my form was perfect every single rep. Depth was always A2G (for some reason stopping @ 90 actually hurts..?) but every once and a while I definitely felt that I was rolling forward onto my toes, especially for the last rep or two. I never even thought about how the gear itself might have affected things either.

I've been throwing down the omega-3s like there's no tomorrow and I've been icing it regularly, seems to be getting better, we'll find out on monday for squats I guess.

Thanks again!

No you can order it from the US without a script because you are in Canada.
Only US customers require a script.
Ive ordered it many times...just go online and place the order with your VISA...youll get it in 10 days or less.
