Im not sure about that.Ive seen some do that as well and you would figure that you would need some kind of support. With heavy ass weights on your shoulders you want to make sure your ankles and feet dont give out...

From what I've read most shoes are bad for lifting heavy weight because the soles aren't meant to handle the huge loads, so they deform, which can lead to problems.

I think people think this is a good idea because Arnol was known to train legs and calves with no shoes. I tried it and it didn`t feel right, especially doing calves. Plus in most gyms, they will ask you to keep your shoes on.

Loll..bro..so what if it deforms.Just get another pair..or use special shoes. Its like saying to a tennis player to go barefoot while training so he has a nice pair when competition time comes. You need support down there cause if not,you are just asking for an injury.Plus,i really dont think that its too good for your back ahving all the weight pound on you bare heals

i think he means it compresses under load (while lifting)....it can and does make people unstable....watch a guy squat with 4plates a side in nike shox.......it can get scary.............i go barefoot.

No shoes for me when I squat, it's easier on my knees I find but I can still squat in shoes.

Yeah most shoes have raised heels which makes it hard to really drive with your legs when your going heavy, I generally wear shoes but if its not too busy I much prefer lifting without for deadlifts/squats.

No shoes for me for squats or deads, I have a tendency to lean forward with back squats and the heal only promotes that, for deads I like the feel of no shoes plus the 1" less distance to pull makes a difference when going heavy.
