Back in the late 80s and early 90s I trained at Popeye's Gym in Kitchener, Ontario. It was a great gym then. Catered to powerlifters/bodybuilders and people trained HARD. I went back to Kitchener for a couple months a few years ago and my oh my, look what's happened to Popeye's.

The powerlifting area is now downstairs out of sight and sound so as not to scare the fitness crowd. The equipment has become a montage of surreal complication. Unreal is an understatement. I had a good look at the piece of equipment pictured below, and after determining how to use it, climbed aboard. After about two reps it became apparent that this monstrosity was, simply put, a useless piece of junk with no useful purpose.

What useless or strange gym equipment have you guys and gals come across?

I tried doing some one legged dumbell squats in that position. I fell and my forehead must have come within inches of the corner post of the half rack. a total *DUH* moment.

Actually just saw a really really fat dude climb up there a cpl days ago when i was doin' squats.... i thought it might collapse... didn't even watch him use it though... thought it may be rude, always feel bad for the fat peeps...

I've been to the EXACT gym you are talking about. One of my friends goes there strictly for the 180's.

when i 1st signed up you get a free initial consult or whatever... the female pt i had told me i probably didn't need her help as it appeared i knew what i was doing... lol
