I know the heat would make me feel more like shit.
I've had similar experiences with tanning beds as TVG, particularly with cold sores. I get one every year or two and usually after I've been using beds. I've had the sore throat thing to. I certainly can't demonstrate scientific causation, just personal experience and anecdotal evidence.

UV rays contain vitamin D. i dont think adding vitamin D to your system would negatively effect your immunity or speed up and possible infection. doesnt seem logical....

There is quite a bit of evidence that suggests that UV suppresses the immune system. Here's a synopsis:
UV lights are believed to suppress the functionality of the immune system. This leaves the person susceptible to various types of skin infections, especially herpes in the form of cold sores. It also can leave some vaccines ineffective so you aren’t really protected against those illnesses that you think you are.
If you are injured, your immune system might be slowed down because you use tanning beds. The DNA repair process could take up to twice as long. The person is also more likely to develop an infection because their immune system is below where it should be.
