I read in the financial times about 2 months ago about the upcoming food shortages that Americans will face. They talked about how the drought in California has been so bad over the last several years, that over 80% of the farms have now drained all there ground water and now have to ship water in to get shit to grow. They also said that places like Canada and several other colder states rely on California, and Florida for most produce. I canada we import an estimated 85% of the food we eat. They went on to say how China has started filling the California gap and that both the US and Canada have the lowest food storage since the end of WW2. The article blamed it on government incentives to farmers to grow crops for ethanol instead of food. It takes roughly 350lbs of corn to make tank of gas for an SUV. That is enough food to feed 1 man for a year.
