Probiotic's help shrink your gut!

The more I read about these cool little bacteria the more I want to start using them. Anyone on here use them consistently? Anyone know of the best name brand I can get for some potent ones?

I use acidophilus regularly. Make sure it's refrigerated when you buy it.

sure but thats not enough, there is a big write up on what to take and how to take it.. ill try and find it.

from what ive found so far online, most of it says the yogurt is a good idea, but it doesnt really help as much as a concentrated supplement would. obviously using the yogurt is still a good idea, but i dont wanna slam back 10 yogurts if i can take a couple capsuls instead.

Yeah I take 3 a day with meal + digestive enzymes.

I really noticed improvment in my gut health. Better digestion let say. Get it? Was having problems with protein shakes not agreeing with me and stuff. Started using Probiotics and Digestive enzyemes problems gone.

I use UDO's brand Adult Probiotics and UDO's Digestive enzyemes expensive but great products.

Keep them in the fridge.

They're great for travelling, too. I always bring a bottle of Jamieson's brand with me when I go overseas. Why Jamieson's? It's cheap, that's why :)

I forgot to respond to this, but the but the three punch combo pack is made by Natren....name of the 3 bottle combo is called "The Healthy Start System" consists of MEGAdophilus, BIFIDOfactor & DIGESTALAC......... best i've used.

I take them every day. I get mine at costco probiotics 5 billion active cells. One in the morning and one at night, doesnt seem to matter as long as I take them every day.

im going to get into digestive enzymes (i lack some, which is why some foods dont work with me) and the probiotics. Although a healthy gut should be in natural balance, while bulking all this extra food could use some help...

I hope this thing works like you all mentioned. I picked up a bottle of 60 caps today at rexall pharmacy for $11:99, Jamieson's was $22;99.

Your body contains billions of bacteria and other microorganisms. The term "probiotics" refers to dietary supplements or foods that contain beneficial, or "good," bacteria that are similar to those normally found in your body. Although you don't need probiotics to be healthy, these microorganisms may provide some of the same health benefits that the bacteria already existing in your body do — such as assisting with digestion and helping protect against harmful bacteria.

In addition to supplements, probiotics can be found in such foods as yogurt, fermented and unfermented milk, miso, and some juices and soy drinks. Dannon's Activia yogurt, for instance, is an example of a probiotic food.

There is a growing public and scientific interest in probiotics. Researchers are studying whether probiotics taken as foods or supplements can help treat or prevent illness. There is encouraging evidence that probiotics may help:

* Treat diarrhea, especially following treatment with certain antibiotics
* Prevent and treat vaginal yeast infections and urinary tract infections
* Treat irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
* Reduce bladder cancer recurrence
* Shorten the duration of intestinal infections
* Prevent and treat inflammation following colon surgery (pouchitis)
* Prevent eczema in children

Some researchers believe probiotics may improve general health. Actually "Healthy Trinity" from Natren looks like it's the most potent, now that I'm finished healthy start I'll give it a try ....30billion cfu! thats insane.

One important not for taking these supplements is to drink them with distilled water. Tap water has chlorine in it wich kills bacteria and will damage or kill most of the probiotics making them less effective and a big waste of money.

The rexall one I bought has 6 billion active cells. Interesting thing about the tap water though, how about using club soda to wash it down?

um... not sure, but reverse osmosis or natural spring water is probably preferable over soda and just as good as distilled.

Natren has a good name. Thier healthy trinity probiotic is very high quality.

The one I used had 50 billion cultures per serving. I forget the name though. Not too expensive either.
