hey dudes,
Life is about to get more hectic than before and since my diet currently consists of 2 shakes a day and wanting to simplify my life can I pre-mix shakes a couple days in advance and it not have an adverse effect in degrading the protein?
thanks!

Doing so will make your protein shakes in effective. Can't bring the powder to work, school or wherever and just add water when needed?

It will huh? Got something which will back that up? Not trying to argue (for once) but to outright state is as a fact should warrant some research to go with it otherwise... explain RTD's?
And no, I can't just bring powder with me unfortunately.

Not handy, I'll see if I can dig something up. Some RTD's are better then others, it comes down to the processing (retort or aseptic) that make the nutrients stable for periods of time.

There is a lot of talk about "protein degradation" in water/liquid, but really it's just going to break down into amino acids which your body will do anyways. I would be more concerned about bacterial growth that can occur in such an ideal environment. Keep it in the fridge, but just not for too long.

yeah, couple days max. Just something easy from a time perspective.
I remember reading about how some amino acids in whey becoming toxic if pre mixed and not consumed immediately. protein in powder form is meant to be mixed and consumed immediately. it does not contain the same preservatives and other additives that RTD's contain. dont do it. bring your protein with you in a mixer cup, and just add liquid to it. its just as convenient.

I know with creatine it would be a bad idea. Not sure about protein powder. It might be ok but the protein would come out of solution and clump on the bottom. May be kind of a pain.
I would just leave the dry powder in a shaker cup or whatever you use and bring along a bottle of water.

Not only will it degrade but it will probably taste disgusting after a few days. I would buy a case of RTDs like waderow recommends. Bio-X Protein Blasts are pretty damn tasty imo (Except the 3-carb version) as well as Muscle Milk.

i mix a shake in the am and put the empty shaker in my cooler...i have forgot it before by accident, and its the temp of a fridge, and i took the lid off after 36 hours and it reaked something horrible..im not a scientist but i know shit when i smell it and that adds up to..... cannot be good...sorry no scientific theory to back it up....just an observation...lol....:flowers

I would be worried about bacteria/molds growing. If you left milk out for a few days would you drink it?

id like to see info if it would degrade.only important thing is refridgerate it,protein is great for bacteria growth. especially with moisture added.i know it doesnt taste quite as good when premixed, texture changes but,why not buy 2 or three shaker cups just add water and shake it up
