Ok, most of you that are experienced in forums know about the bots that register and post links to other sites, porn, wow gold or stupid stuff like that. Most of these spam bots come from Netherlands and Asia, in specific, india/pakistan. I do all I can to keep the site clean of them. In reality, I verify each and every single registration on this board. That in turn means I spend a lot of time cleaning things up. Gets fustrating.

Now why do they want links you ask? Links to your site get you to rank higher on google. These guys get paid 3-4 dollars a day to do hundres of links like this. Some sites, like CBB make it very difficult for the bots to enter so sometimes I get physical users that register. Once in awhile they get through. I clean up where I can. Good news is that google is changing things up a bit. Hopefully it'll stop these spam bots as they ruin tons of forums and blogs (yes, they even do it on blogs).

Another way to get the links out there is to put it in a signature and make a post. That one is hard for me to catch. If it continues and they keep getting through, I will implement a signature stoppage until maybe 100 posts. I don't mind active users linking to a "non competative" site. That member helps me and if they want to help another site or their own, it's all good. As long as it's not a competitor site or a store that competes with our sponsors. That I would consider fair. Which is also another reason I always ask members to put up a link in your sig on other sites to this board. Of course it has to be ok with the owner, but most don't mind if you are an active member.

If something gets through and I don't notice, please pm me and I'll clean it up. I will be upgrading the site software soon and maybe even the template still. Maybe a mixture of light and dark insead of just dark or just light.

The gear pics section will also be another section that will be changed. The description of that sections states the coming changes.

All in all, I feel CBB is doing very well and growing and a rapid pace (yes, some of us are working hard to recruit here).

All in all, this is a good thread to also give your feedback or suggestions in.

Oh, and another thing, the bots, I delete from the site. Notice when you go to some forums, they have like 40,000 members and 150,000 posts. That's because the site admin doesn't clean up the bot registation. Why you ask? Because it looks "better" "bigger". They charge more for advertising because they have more members. Hey, I actually know a site that has 12k memeers and 65,000 posts. Not 1 post is from a real member. Everything is just spam bots.

I am proud to announce that our 2200+ members ARE ALL NON BOTS or at least 99%. A couple may have slipped through. Why do I do this you ask? Because I want a forum that is legit, clean, and for the members and sponsors. I'm not here to con the sponsors into thinking we are huge and making a fast buck off them. Some sponsors here have been with me for 5 years now I think. Why? Probably because I want to help them and get some help in return. My goal is to give us all a community where we grow and call home.

I am against helping competitors of CBB grow? The reason for this is because we are few. To spread them out over more sites means things will slow down immensely for that site, this site and all sites. Kind of like what happened in the US after 2005 where everyone and their cousins opened up a site. Now they all struggle except a few. I've been admining forums since 2002 and on the boards since 1999. I earn the trust of a lot of you here and will probably earn it from a few more of you over time.

What I ask for in return is your loyalty to CBB. Help me help this site grow. It really is what we all make of it. Every site goes through ups and downs and I ask you go through them with me.

My goal for CBB is over 10k members and over 1million posts. To get there won't be easy and the cost of maintaining the board will go up of course. That is why the sponsors are there, they will help me through it all. And in reality, they have some pretty good deals so they help you too :) We will eventually need to move to a dedicated server which can go from a cheap $100 for a low end one to $400 a month for a dual core system. Now $400/month isn't pocket change and I don't charge my sponsors much. Especially when you consider that a 1 page ad in MD goes over 10 thousand dollars for 1 month I believe.

What will get complicated is if the site reaches mega site status. The means you have at any given time about 1500 members posting. Not 1500 online. But actually posting and doing stuff. Then I would have to get multiple servers and create a cluster. Pretty expensive but of course if we have that big of a site, that means advertising costs go up. I don't think the sponsors would mind as their clientele would increase to. Sites like bb.com are on clusters.

Well that's it for now. Your feedback and suggestions are always welcome.

On one hand the "canada" part of canadianbodybuilding likely limits the total membership. On the other hand it is certainly why I am a member and likely provides a good target market for your sponsors (again limited but targetted). Active membership is likely a more interesting stat than total membership.

For CBB to draw the 10k membership you quote I think you might have to fundamentally change the nature of CBB.... Social Networking, Articles, Newsletters, Sponsored Athletes, etc. rxMuscle is a pretty good example of a high growth model like this. The drama of romano/palumbo and their use of wrestling style marketing, porn, soap opera and any other marketing schtick at their disposal has been very impressive.

That said I don't personally think it's a good fit for CBB but they are headed for 10k fast.
Some of the targetted improvements... articles, athletes, newsletters would help without watering down CBB.

and I haven't donated to cbb - but I will. I'm here now and I get a lot of entertainment out of this forum. For me to get this much entertainment elsewhere it would cost me $500 a some sort of jail time for soliciting sex from a minor.

I've always liked smaller sites. never actually participated in a "large" site. no community feel and don't get to know the in's and out's of members and their personalities/leanings/sexual orientation...lol

Thanks for keeping things running so smooth here!

For what it's worth, I'm quite partial to the very dark screen.
