View Full Version : 2010 Camaro SS or 2010 Shelby GT500?

Both Ford and Chevy have obviously reworked two of the recognizable names in car history.

The new mustangs interior is beautiful, while the Camaro might have the edge on outside appearance.

And just so we're all clear. That Shelby has 540 stock HP while the Camaro comes in @ I believe 410hp.

And don't get me wrong, the m3 is a beautiful car. I love the 335i as well. My only issue with the car is the popularity here in Vancouver. Every asian (no offense asians) seems to have one. I remember walking with my gf and we were looking at a nice bodykitted 335i convert parked when during that 3 minutes 3 other 3 serious drove past (not all the 335 model) but still..wtf!!!

how about the m5 then? I agree about BMW. I live in Ottawa and every ****tard and their brother have one but they all seem to drive the 3 series - cheap versions.

If I do get one it'll be one that's different than every other on the street. I was considering the Mercedez CLS500 but I think it is too ostentatious for me.

I think both the m5 and the CLS500 are beautiful and far less common.

But they are not included in my American Muscle Car Shootout homo. :D Pick one.

And I suppose BMW is so common now due to the fact that they really do make great cars...it is a positive overall just a negative when you want to be not asian.

i would have said the shelby, but the problem is the way ford works and that you can get that body style in a $20G V6, a $35G GT V8, or the $100G Shelby, and from the outside, the biggest difference is the decal.

If Ford turfed the V6, I would consider a Mustang, but as long as a non performance version exists, it is cheezy.

This is my vote and without any doubt should have been included in the American Muscle car shootout LOL

Very solid points...v6s are the lose.

And you are correct about the Corvette. Doesn't the new ZR1 smoke ferraris and lambos or something? I thnk I read that.

holisexxx you picking one of these bad boys up ?

Considering it bro. I haven't tested either of them yet - and not sure when I will be able to walk on a dealership and do it. From what I have gathered all the early models are spoken for. So it isn't easy to take them out since you are driving someone elses car lol.

I thought of the new challenger but when I sat inside it was just 'too plastic'.

And the Shelby GT500 is roughly 54k (Not in the same price league as the zr1 which is like 115k or some shit).

Also looking at some suv's again as well. (Lincoln mkx and infinit fx34/45)

I have a serious ****ing problem choosing a car. So last time I was looking I copped out and bought a boat and moorage instead and I had my cbr.

Now I just have a boat, and summer is approaching. That means roadtrips, so it is time for a vehicle (I live dt van and everything I want to see is within walking distance).

They both are major fugly. Also gotta love the timing.

I had a Firebird back in the '90s and they were sweet looking. i did have the v6 (lose) but still came close to losing my license. hell 1 year I paid $8500 in insurance. thankfully at the time 50km over just got you a ticket, lol. if I had the v8 I probably would have lost my license anyway, not to mention the fact the v8 would have made insurance impossible

bro, are you sure the shelby is $54000?

I know the MSRP is, and when they first came out, i went with my cheque book to go buy one, but once there the sales guy laughed and said the MSRP doesnt apply here, were charging $110,000.00. I then laughed and said you can get a Z06 for that price and left.

Perhaps they are not so much in demand as they were at first, but I would call a dealership first. The SVT vehicles are always **** jobs when they sell them

You need to watch Topgear! I think the last version of the GT500 claimed 500hp but when they put it on the dyno it only had 427whp... your likly to get more power buying a GT and doing header/exhaust/intake and you'll save at least $20k and make the same power with a good tune.

As far as looks the GT500 is by far the nicer looking car I think the Camaro looks pretty ass to be honest.

Also who the hell would pay $110,000.00 for a Mustang? That doesent make any sense at all you can buy a much faster car for that cash...

thats true with almost every vehicle. engine HP versus HP to wheels reported on dyno is very different due to inefficiencies in powertrain

Its actually just an American thing to advertise more horsepower than you actually make, in japan most cars are underrated in the advertising I believe a lot of euro cars are the same. Who gives a shit how much bhp you make the only power that counts is the kind you can use. Which leads to the biggest problem I have with the Shelby... the stone age suspension... why in 2010 are selling cars with 540hp and a solid rear axle... I guess burnouts are cool but really why not have independent rear suspension and a LSD... you know so you can use that power.

Also I track my cars so my opinions reflect that, I'm sure for daily street driving the car is badass but I already own two cars that turn heads if I was buying something like this it needs to do more than that for my money.

I have a 2008 Shelby. Paid 55k for it out of the box. Nice car very good bang for you bucks. With a few mods you can push 600hp easily. I think the build quality is better then the corvette but the vette is faster no doubt. I have enjoyed the car so far its reliable and cheap to maintain and probably will stay maintence free for at least 5 years. My 80's 930 turbo is way more fun to drive way less reliable and you better lube up when you take it in to get work done!

yeah I've driven my uncle's 07' gt500 a few times....I was quite impressed actually, he bought from down south when our dollar was much better, got it to his house with all inspections for $52,000....immediatly bolted on the reg mods, chip, exhaust, pulley, cold-air intake....dynoed @ 520RWHP (approx.600 @ crank). That car mmmoooovvveeessss!!! U can get real snakey if your not careful ;) BTW he now slammed it 2" and has a sweet set of 20's that really help the look and ride height.

i should get some pics up, it's one of the nicest 500's ive seen. also dad has a c6 'vette, we've raced the 420hp vette (crank hp) vs. 600hp shelby gt500 a few times. guess what, the vette hooks incredibly and pulls away by a good 3-4 car lengths, as soon as the GT hooks (in 3rd gear!) it slowly starts to pull closer.....we've only raced to approx. 160km/hr and the GT never caught up completly! GT500 could really use a prper traction control like the vette has....
