Cardio is so fuken useless! Unless your doing some intervals.

People need to stop being lazy in the gym and sitting around for 2 minutes between sets... instead, train with some intensity .... speed & power... and then you will be doing your cardio workout while you lift.

How many football players do you see walking on a treadmill?.... Zero! They some how manage to stay lean and maintain alot of muscle. Look at how they train.

they also train for much longer than the average gym dude.

When I was playing ball, I spent an hour and a half in the gym pushing heavy weights with explosive movements and another 2 hours outside the gym working on drills and agility training.

Ive seen alot of football players and dont remember too many being lean except the running backs and wide receivers...maybe the a few of the safety's and the kicker...the rest of the guys were basically big and strong and fast but not lean. This is inherent to the job that they do and what is required.
They eat alot and train hard and long but that wont make you lean. You need to combine training, diet and cardio for this. Cardio is an essential part of it. You can train as hard as you want in the gym but if you want to get pealed you will need to cardio period.

They do their cardio on the field during practice, they don't need more in the gym. But 90% of football players that I know do cardio in the gym during the offseason. If you've ever gone to a full football practice, you don't want to go in there being out of shape/low endurance.

Exactly, how many bodybuilders do you see NOT walking on a treadmill (or doing some other form of cardio). It's definitely essential.

And to answer the initial questions. 20-40min low intensity post workout. If your heart rate gets elevated too high then you are no longer burning the maximum amount of fat. The nice part about doing it pwo is that your body is already in a fat burning state from your training.

You guys should check out Scott Abel's MET Hybrid training then. It will defiantly change your opinion of "walking on a treadmill" as doing cardio.

I've seen it first hand...my fiance has the DVD's and has done it in the past. The issue is the cardio is based on the diet...ie carb intake...you cannot do this type of cardio while on a keto diet or you will sacrafice muscle mass. I really dont see the point in taking in carbs and then having to do HIT cardio in order to burn fat...seems counterproductive to me.

theres no magic amount, some of us use bbing as an excuse to be lazy, cardio does more than keep you lean,it ups your work capacity, increaqses metabolism, good for your heart too.you can do hiit cardio switching with lower longer cardio, they both have there place, hiit burns cals long after your done by revving your metabolism, lower intensity taps into your fat stores especially pwo,if you only got 20 min do hiit,if you got more time do longer slower.also change your machines often, your body becomes very efficient very quickly, lessening the effect
