Figure it changes a lot what they are looking for sometimes from show to show. In general though I had to much muscle from lifting heavy for years to do well in figure I would have had to give up all the core lifts that I love and do plyos and bunch of crap that seems like no fun to me. Give me a bar and some 45's I am a very happy girl. In general I found figure to be disappointing all that work to prance around on stage in heals for a few minutes. With BB you at least get a bit more time to shine show off all that hard work and yes it is not as subjective as figure that is for sure.

you sound like a bber to me, would be boring to do weights with the idea of not adding too much muscle. post your progress when you get into training for show.

Not to critisize but I think you're a little off on your bf numbers. If you are 197lbs at 4% bf that means you have 7.88lbs of fat... In order for you to hit your goal of 176 that means you'll need to walk on stage at 0% bf (impossible and you'd die) and sacrifice 13lbs of muscle while youre at it.

Drew, the way I read the diet, out of his 2300 daily cals 1400 of them are from protein (350g) and 900 are from carbs (225g) and there is not a single calorie from fat.

I may not be a competitor, but if you're 4 weeks out I will offer some advice. Get your bf tested by a professional so you know exactly where you are at, how much you have to lose, and if you can realistically get down to your goal of 176 without sacrificing too much muscle. Also take a closer look at your diet as I don't know many people who will go 22 weeks without consuming a single gram of fat. You may be taking in more calories than you are estimating.

Wow, thanks for the flattery.lol
Have you ever dieted for a show? If you are going to come is lean and shredded you will lose muscle in the final stages of your contest prep, there is no way to get all intermuscular fat out without sacrificing some muscle. The key is to hang onto as much muscle as possible and use its energy burning effects until you have to lose it.
As for my carb and protein ratios and fat intake, let me share.

My protein consists of eye of round, egg whites, tuna, chicken, turkey and whey. I supplement my fats with omega 3-6-9. I respond well with this combination and as of today have dropped starch carbs by another 150.

I DO NOT expect to walk on stage at 0 fat. I expect to walk on, if I am lucky between 2-4%, which combined with water drop will make you look very tight.

Last year at one week out I was 198 and I weighed in at 188.5. Here are some pics from that show and I will try to post some of my current condition.

Non competitor here. I am around a lot of people who do compete though, and I see what they go through to prepare. I don't have the dedication or the drive to do that. I have the utmost respect for anybody who does compete, yourself included.

When I see a 22 week diet, to me that says the person is looking to slowly lean out and maintain as much muscle mass as possible. To me dropping that much in the final 4 weeks goes against all that effort. As Drew said, if you're peeled you're peeled and you will do incredibly well. Don't sacrifice too much to get to that number. If you do end up in the higher class and you're the most ripped mofo up there, you will still do really well.

Not sure this year, will wait and see where I am at. Last year for the last week drank normal then Wed 4L, Thur 3L, Fri 1L (finished by 4pm), weigh-ins at 6pm. After weigh-ins I started fat and carb load in the form of honey, rice cakes and peanutbutter.

Thanks and the last week is about flattening out too. you empty the muscle of as much glycogen as you can which helps with the water flush too. As you approach the magic hour you start slowly loading the muscles back up with carb or fat loads. Some guys will cram pizza, chicken or whatever. I figure this is a competition so I am not a big fan of "junk" loading, prefer to kep it clean and simple.

No offense bro, but you are nowhere near 4% BF.... I don't get to 4% BF on stage and trust me, I'm ripped when I compete...

I'd say ( or guesstimate) that you are around 9-10% now... but you still got time....

BF% is VERY hard to measure accuratly, we can always go by the eye, but it will stay a guesstimation...

keep it up man! you have 4 weeks to get as lean as you can! you have good mass on you, just concentrate on bringing a lean package and you'll do well.

Post some legs, back and overall body pics so we can give you constructive criticism.

bf% is over rated , some can look ripped at higher% others low %, depends on whose using calipers, go mby mirror, if you can see ass muscles clearly odds are your ripped.based on your pics and bw goals you should be a lean mf, but thats based on abs only shot.with your size get ripped to shit and youll be hard to beat. were rottin for ya , we like to see board members win

*****You are right and the guesstimate guage I use is around 10% if you can see the top two rectus abdominus and if you can see all the between 4-9%. Yes, very subjective and as most would attest completely useless to discuss.*****

Awesome symmetry bro! I think you have nice lines, great mass and a very good overall balance, you should do well if you get lean enough. You have great potential.

If you want my opinion, I think you should be a bit leaner by now. However, 4 weeks is still plenty of time to catch up and come up ripped. How much cardio you do? What's your diet look like?
If you don't mind sharing, I am sure we could give you good criticism, because yes Mr.Kupkee : we like to see board members win!!! :)

Also, ss Drew said, bf% is soooo overrated. I hear too many guys claiming that they compete at 2%, 2.5%,3%.....which is of course a big pile of horseshit... How the hell would they know? based on a plastic caliper from GNC???lol...
seriously, the 3 or 7 skinfolds test usually gives results that are nowhere near reality... the only real and accurate meathod is the DXA (Dual energy X-ray absorptiometry) method which is basically a X-ray scan... and I don't think a lot of bodybuilders do that....lol.
Just go by the mirror, bf% is just a number and doesn't mean anything.... the mirror, on the other hand, never lies...

Well boys the event was a blast and I got blasted outta the water!!At weigh-ins I did not make middle weight and came in to light heavies at 188.* Four guys at light heavy weigh-in were 1-2lbs over and were given 1 hour to drop, unfortunately for me they all made weight.* the day of the show I was the lightest guy and was by far the softest.* I had a 9 point skin fold done 2 days before weigh in and they said 5.6%.Outside of not being as "dry" or as big as the other guys I was still in the best shape I have ever been and I had fun.* Some of the guys in my class have been competing for over a decade and one was even a national level judge!* So over all I do not feel too beat up.I would, however, like to pose a couple of questions to the board;1) How in the hell do these guys get such a dry, full and hard look?2) Should I add weight, continue to drop fat and stay in the lt. Heavy?Your input is appreciated and although i dont have stage shots yet I will include night before.Let the rippin begin!Cheers

It's hard to say how to get dry because everyone's different. First thing though is you have to be lean enough. YOu should be able to experiment 2 weeks out as well with your carb up regime to see how that does and make adjustments too. I wasn't as dry as I wanted either for my show, but it's all a learning experience. If you're shredded though, you don't reallyhave to worry much.

CONGRATS btw! Job well done.
