Any advice, links, or articles would help. I am prepping alone and the only advice I am getting is from my uncle who competed years ago in the Canada naturals. I attended, but remember very little. I was too busy looking around being inspired by the contestants.
Think I got the diet pretty well, 9 weeks to go and at about 6%. But posing routine and tanning I have no experience.

St, sounds good to me bro! After the show we are taking my buddy out for his bachelor party! hahaha
Flexxx, post up some pics and let's see how you are coming along! Posing is something that needs to be practiced a lot. Watch videos of the pro's and practice in front of a mirror to the music you've chosen. Get friends to critique you. Maybe even record yourself while you do it since you're prepping alone, then review the tapes and make sure you're hitting them proper.

I thought I would build some momentum and do the levels over again and then do the Nats.

Well, 1 week from today I am hitting the road and heading to Ottawa to support a good friend. Going to be a long but fun road trip. Well worth it. Any members other than Flexxx and SS doing this show? How are the 2 of you coming along in your prep?

Well my contest prep didnt go nearly as smooth as I would have liked. I normally never do cardio as I have bad knees. My left knee was completely destroyed and replaced several years ago in a motorcycle accident.
From all the stress of cardio my knee got really inflammed and locked up. I went in for a cortisone shot. This brought down the inflammation but managed to give me a pretty bad staph infection. This laid me up for almost 4 weeks.
I have been leaner for photoshoots, I am really not very satisfied with my conditioning. But, I am also a perfectionist. After all this work and time put in there is no way I am backing out. This is my first show and I am not expecting to win anything I just want to gain some experience and meet some new people.
I will be happy just getting up on stage and finally getting this done. I will only improve with time and experience.
Looks like I will be coming in a the top of the light heavyweight. Not really sure how my carb loading / water dropping will change my weight. I am sitting at 200 right now but holding water.

HAHAHA my gf had to shut me up in the audience. I was watching him pose backstage all day trying not to snicker, then when they announced he won I almost lost it! Couldn't believe it. Oh well... they're old men. When I'm old and grey I hope to be healthy enough to still train like I do.

we're you guys there at the morning show? It was a tough call between 2nd and 3rd, and I am sure it was close. I had him in 2nd as well, but I really had to look back and forth between them. You must remember the judges re-calling the class out and changing him and the 2nd place guys positions to make sure they got it right.
In the end I had him 2nd based on muscle density, but it truly was a toss up. I didn't get to see the night show, I got it wrong too, but not shocked - just work a little on being more poised on stage and you will do great in November.

while his posing wasn't the greatest, he really was the top guy in the class. It's tough to judge when you know one guy deserves to win based on what they have, but they aren't showing it to their best ability. Although, even with the lack of stage presence he still deserved the win. Some poses were a lot better than others, which was good for him because that's what put him over the edge.

It was a pretty split decision amongst most the judges. How do I know this? I know most the judges and a week after the show I asked their opinion. The told me what the score sheets read.
He was not defined. Conditioning sucked - he barely had abs on stage. And, he couldn't pose. What he had going for him was he was hard conditioning wise.

Yes I was at pre-judging.
And thanks for the info on how the judging panel and call-outs work...

I wasn't posting to say how the call outs work. I was just pointing out how close it was by stating that the judges re-called them out and switched the positions.

You have just confirmed what I thought was the case by the observations I made.

I was there from the weigh-ins to the end. I watched it all. I knew the judges had their top 3 from the call-outs. It was very obvious. Yes Mike had more muscle density, but we all know it's not just size that matters. It's about conditioning as well. Upper body would have been close between the 2. The reason I say I was shocked, we are talking about cuts in the quads and striations in the hams vs legs that looked they were holding about 5lbs too much water. That's where it was clear to me that Mike had the lead. I've got pics of the 3 that I have yet to load, I'll post em up when i stop being lazy just for fun :)
What really matters here, is they all qualified for the show in November.

Hey my ego needs a little strokin too hahahahaha.....
I am pounding the crap out of my legs now...they finally stopped aching a bit today and I trained my legs on Sunday. I am hopin to spark a little bit of growth between now and November, doubtful, but I am a positive thinker haha.

Agree with everything. The only additional thing to add to the list is shape, and that's where the other person probably edged him out in the judges that had him ahead (I think his name is Peter). I usually favor shape as well, but in my opinion his shape wasn't ahead enough to make up for the lack of conditioning in his legs, and that's why I agree with you and Nate on his position.
If you guys haven't seen this yet, there are lots posted at:
