So far I've tried:
- melanotan II with terrible results: permanent spots, dark circles under eyes
- regular tanning: works well, but after using Accutane, I have really bad facial wrinkles, and tanning beds just make it worse, no matter how much moisturizer I use.
So my choice now is to be pale, or use lotions or spray tanning products. Does anyone here use these exclusively? Are there different chemicals that tan the skin, or is it all the same ingredient? In the past I've tried a lotion that worked, but caused a fake looking slight orange tan color.

I use Jergens natural glow for fair skin. It works really well. It sucks having to apply it everyday, kind of time consuming, but the results are good compared to other self tanners. Plus its tightens up the skin noticeably which is nice.
PS ever since I started getting new freckels and broken blood vessels I stay the **** away from tanning beds, those things are NOT good for my skin.

hahah.. I tried self tanners a couple of times 2 summers ago... it really did not go well at all. I was a streaky orangey mess... and whenever I would just into a pool most of it would come off...
now I just stick to the beds... I like using them before training sometimes if my joints are a little beat up. Just throw a towel over you face, and tan your body.

Ya thats what I do to. Use a towel and cover up my face.
Don't like the face tanners on the bed. They're excessively strong it seems and I come out looking like a beet. Can't be good for the skin either.
I use a bit of clarins mens self tanning gel on my face. Its a bit pricey but it works good. Don't mind spending a bit extra for stuff I put on my face :)

i cover my face too, cause my face doesn't change color, but my nose turns red :(
I got melanoma cancer a few years ago. Thats about a year or two after I started tanning regularly.
Now I have to wear spf 70 when I go out in the summer and I'm scarred all to heck from the surgery to the point where I dont even like to take my shirt off in public.
Be careful not to burn yourselves in those beds guys & gals.

How did you determine that you were suffering from cancer?
^^A weird mole appeared. It was itchy.

scary stuff. I'm very light skinned (blond eyes/blue eyes) and burn very easily so I suspect I'm susceptible to it..
Glad that you're ok now!
If you don't mind sharing, how much were you tanning during those couple years?

It's mobile air brush tanning

Once or twice a week and other times maybe only once or twice a month, but I tended to burn myself a lot the less frequently I went. I think it was consecutive mild burns that did it, not so much the frequency of tans. I'm not positive.
All I know for sue is that I never had that mole before I started tanning in beds.

I had a mild form of skin cancer as well. Im not sure if it was melanoma cancer because I think thats more serious. Anyways I regularly go to a dermatologist to get moles removed and my skin taken care of, and during one visit I showed him what I thought was a skin coloured mole that appeared almost overnight. Usually getting moles removed costs money because its considered "cosmetic". The Dr took one look at this small thing on my shoulder and removed it that day and said hes sending it in for testing and that OHIP would cover it. My next visit he updated me and told me it was a mild form of skin cancer. Im fair skinned (blond hair, green eyes) so when I told him I use tanning beds he proceeded to give me SHIT like only a PHD weilding Doctor can. Im only 24 and I dont want serious forms of skin cancer, so I use the bitch fake tanning shit now and over up in the summer. My skin has never looked healthier.
i know a girl who got a spray tan, and at first i was thinking, ok epic fail, your gonna look like an ompa loompa, because ive seen people but on that self apply tanning shit.
but when i seen her i couldnt tell the difference between it and a real tan, looked good. Only lasts like a week though.

I guess I'll have to try my local spray tanning booth. I think it's like $50 a pop though, and they recommend going every 5 days!

careful bro.. one of my exes went to a cheaper spray tan against my advice, had to skip school for a week cause her face looked like she had the michael jackson disease
spend the extra buck and go to a high end spa....

That`s insane. To the people who use the lotions. How do you cover your whole body with that stuff. I mean what about the back?

Air brush tanning is what you want. A technician will spray you by hand so that it comes out even and not streaky.

Too bad Melanotan II didn't work for you.
I've used on and off now for about a year, and it works very good for me. It does give me darker moles and more spots, but they disappear once you stop. A two week loading phase of melanotan II will make just about anybody dark, and stay dark for a long time compared to tanning in a bed.

i dont.
all i lotion is my face and arms.
i tan for acne so i dont care if my chest and legs take a bit longer to tan, they still look almost identical to my lotioned parts, just barely less, youd never notice

If you use a lotion at home, I recommend good brands. Lancome...etc. They tend to go on much more evenly. Also....if you want to reduce streaks; try using a mousse instead of cream.
If your sensitive to creams and such; use a self tanner that is specifically for the face. Tends to give less breakouts and leaves a much less greasier effect.
Before using any tanner or spray tan; invest in a good loofah sponge or glove. Loof your body before using a tanner or spray tan. This will rid of all dead skin cells sitting on the surface and give a more even, healthier glow with a tan.
Just some suggestions from a gal....
