Say i were to get 600 calories, 40g protein JUST from milk in one sitting.

would you classify that as a meal compared to whole foods? or is it just a drink to you, and milk HAS to be drank just as a side macro alongside a 'real meal'

reason i ask is, it doesnt make sense to me why it doesnt count, macros are macros right?

i just had about a litre of milk and a bowl of cereal. bringing the total to about 50g protein, 800 calories, 60g carbs, and i dunno, 20g fat.

what makes the milk and cereal any different from say a meal of chicken and whole wheat rice that yields the same macros?

i am just wondering if you guys classify the macros that come from milk on par with whole foods?

like say a piece of chicken has 350 cals, 20g protein, low carbs, low fats.

and a 500ml glass of milk has about the same macros, do you classify each of those 2 options as a meal in itself and either is fine IF those are the macros you are aiming for

Dairy counts...a cup of low fat cottage cheese does so why wouldn't milk?

Alot of guys drink their meals when they work in places where food is not easy to take along and make em up with skim or 2 % ..it's no different.

Unless were talking dieting then milk is a no no because of the lactose in it.

Milk is a complete food! damn right!

I drink milk every day, probably 3/4 of a gallon a day, I use it with my porridge in the morning then in my protein shake later on, and then usually I drink a 1/2 litre to a full litre between meals.

That would be like drinking 5 cups of milk. Over a litre in one serving. Can you handle that amount of lactose?

enzyme supplements , everybody thats on a high protein diet should be takin them, ive been taking them and would you believe now I hardly have any gas?

i love drinking skim milk, but all honesty i would not go overboard on it, and never drink it while dieting.

Whole milk is great for bulking and getting strong. There are so many strength athletes that swear by it it's ridiculous... but if you want to diet, I wouldn't touch the stuff.

I love milk.

When putting on muscle a gallon of milk a day is an old and proven way to add serious muscle fast (when combined with heavy old fashioned lifting)

When taking off weight it's too darn rich. Time to swith to whey isolates and get rid of the simple sugars etc.

I'm looking forward to dairy in the fall.

i take skim milk always...dieting too (unless it is a crash thing where i want to accelerate things)
I think miilk is far to important nutricianally to not take

I can understand liquid calories never seem to be as satisfying as whole food however I find milk usually keeps me full. Casein and whey seem to have unique short and long term satiating properties.

I wouldn't call lactose a "simple sugar" it contains glucose sure but it still has to be liberated plus your not usually drinking a tremendous amount of it. In fact Canadian skim milk has a GI of 32(http://www.glycemicindex.com/) not exactly what I would call high. 20gs of protein from skim milk is what 20gs of carbs? Any impact that would have on your blood sugar that might make you hungry would probably be offset by the satiating properties of whey and casein.

Any research I've read is pretty clearly that dairy on calorie restricted diets is unanimously beneficial or at least there is no difference. Any reasons I've seen in this thread seem to be missing the forest for the trees. I'm not saying drink a gallon of milk a day on diet but getting at least enough to put you at 1000-2000mg of calcium should be a cornerstone of a diet. Your looking at increased fat fecal excretion, increased reduction of abdominal fat, the lean mass retention benefits of high leucine content, there is some stuff starting to come out about the effects of meeting the calcium DRI at the gene expression level like the way it effects UCP2. But that's beyond the point. If someone can offer any other reasons dairy should not be incorporated into a diet I'd like to hear them. I've always wondered why bodybuilders were so against milk.

Bodybuilders restrict milk and other dairy due to the fact you hold water with it. But this is not a year round thing. The calcium could be supplemented from pills.

I could also see a bloat from those with mild lactose intolerance which is common with a lot of people. For that reason I could see cutting it out like a week or a couple days before getting on the stage but for the rest of the diet I think it's awesome. You can always supplement but it seems that dairy seems to be favorable for fat loss however that could just be from the satiating affect of the protein and high BCAA content on mass retention but I suppose bodybuilders already have a way higher BCAA intake then the people in studies would have anyway.

Im taking "super enzymes" made by NOW, I have heard people talk down upon this company but I like these enzymes, they work really well since Ive been taking them I havent experienced any protein farts and believe it or not the old poop shoot has been workin better also!

NOW is a great company! I would trust them 10x over some fly by night bodybuilding supplement company of which there are tons. I tried the super enzymes and can't say they helped me out though.
