I recently started doing REVERSE GRIP BENCH for triceps, I find i can use about 50-60 pounds more then my CLOSE GRIP BENCH....which do you find more effective for tricep development???
I am doing DC, so I am also doing Seated French Press, Weighted Dips (Machine Pushdown)...staying away from cables for now.
im loving cable push downs with a flat bar, elbows tucked in, man it lengthens my tris like no other
be careful with the reverse grip tho.. one slip and bye bye face

i do them on a smith..with the safeties set so i dont have to worry so much....
i dont find that cable pushdowns help me grow.....i get a good pump & burn....but cant say i am getting good growth

I've used a lot that all work well but wide grip push downs with a flat bar would have to be my #1 for balanced development

I look forward to tri days because of this exercise alone.

Close grip bench presses and weighted dips are the meat and potatoes of triceps mass building exercises...they should be the staple of your tricep program. Other exercises like press down, skull crushers etc are great once the initial compound mass builders are completed.

thats what i was thinking........ :ilu
i switch it up bentween close grip bench (thickness) and heavy cable pressdowns (lenght) as the main excercise in my tri split
for some reason skull crushers with proper form allude me, but i feel like im getting the same ROM from cable pressdowns
JM presses destroy my tri's......

the best tri exercises for me are, close grip bench, and floor presses... nothing puts mass on my tris more than those

for me i find i hit the insertions better and can keep more downward pressure while alleviating pressure on the elbow joints.

Never tried this exercise. Is this a good example or if not, how should they be done?

CGBP or Floor press, everything else tends to hurt now that I require heavier weights. pressdowns are a great finisher but I just cant do them or extensions without pain if I use a reasonable weight.

Close grip benches (not too close, a comfortable power movement for maximum mass) and rope ext...during rope ext. pull the rope apart to the sides...insane burn...in fact keep the rope somewhat apart during the entire range of motion...you can do them over-head too (don't lean over too much and put your body weight into it, from the elbow down is all that should be moving), a little different angle but same idea... pull the rope apart...feel the burn in the horseshoe...

Decline dumbell tricep extensions. Far none, it will recruit the most muscle fibers than any other move.

Wide grip cable pull downs. Great for hitting the long head of the triceps, builds lots of mass imo.

The long head is "long" because of it's proximal attachment on the scapula. You need to have the upper arm elevated to better activate this head. Otherwise it doesn't have sufficient tension, similar to the gastrocnemius during a seated calf raise.
