Saturday night, not a lot of people here usually. Products are nutritional supps? If so, a banner on sites might be good (like cbb). Google adwords if you have a site.
At sports event would be good to distribute business cards and maybe have an ad.
Just my 2 cents.

Ok thanks keep the ways coming thanks
I know someone who did the same thing, train nearby high schoolers. The hardest part is getting those first few guys, but once you get them, its smooth sailing (everyone in the locker room will have heard of you).
I would suggest attend a game or two, talk to the coaches, and maybe make an announcement in their locker room. Having the trust of the coaches and/or teachers opens the door for long term growth.
Just my 2cents.

If I were you I would contact Hockey Canada in Calgary and try to sponsor the Olympic program or any one of the programs they have Ladies, juniors etc.
Also try the CFL.
Get your name or advertising all over that way - You have to give to these guys to get. It's worth a try.

I doubt he'll have the cash flow for this. It can easily go into the tens of thousands for this stuff.

K, there are literally tons of ways to do this, I'll go through whatever I can think of off the top of my head. Keep in mind, I'm pretty good at marketing a business for dirt cheap, not the way a corporation or huge franchise would, but for a small business I've been at it for the last 5 years, and I've grown the business each year.
One thing to keep in mind is that all I hear from the trainers I know is that there is no money in athletes... my one buddy is all about training doctors and lawyers for $100 an hour.
-Make up a flyer on your computer, name, info etc etc. Go to Staples and get them printed off. I got 700 for $56, there were two on each piece of paper and I got them cut in half for 1400 flyers. Black and white, I'm not sure about color. From there, I would drop them off at the rink, the high school, with coaches just about anywhere your target market is going to go. Your target market I feel is not the athletes themselves... but the parents who are looking to take their kids to the next level. IE... sell the parents and you have the sale. it's great to talk to coaches... but the parents are the the decision makers.
-Whatever flyers are left over, take those, and being cold calling. I'm not sure where you live, but just start going door to door. I know it's scarey, but just ring the doorbell, introduce yourself and ask them if they're interested in personal training. This has a surprisingly high success ratio, it's just sucky as hell to do. Even if you're just dropping flyers in the mailbox at least they're getting something. I have done an ass load of this in the last few years... and I know piles of roofers and floorers who done this to get through hard times. It also leads into my next point.

This is a link to canada post direct mailing. You'll have to look into your particular postal code etc etc... but the jist of it is for me it was 13-14 cents per flyer, I had to print them off as I mentioned above and bundle them. and take them to the post office.. and then I would get them handed out by canada post as they delivered their mail. You'll have to look into this yourself... it'll be a couple grand.. but what you'll get in return will be pretty wild.
-You can also put up signs... bylaw are serious mother ****ers though.. they tear down my signs all the time. Now that I know the rules.. signs can't be made of any hard material... can't be on poles with street signs, etc etc. You're only allowed 1 pole per month.. there's a whole buncha weird crap... but the jist is on metal poles you can put up paper with masking tape... just tape a whole bunch.. and on wooden poles you have to use a stapler. I've had bylaw come to my house... threatening to give me a $300 fine for each sign up... so I'd stick with the paper on telephone poles. you can also get this done at staples for dirt cheap.
That's really about it. Keep in mind people will have to see your flyers, signs a few times before it clicks in their heads but when it does you're good to go. So make sure you're marketing with a few different forms... you might never hear about one of these methods getting you a lead... but it still helps.
Good luck man, marketing can be a lot of fun and you don't have to spend a ton of money to do it.
