505, my dead is my weak point, but I am focusing on lower back and hamstrings right now so when I bring deadlifts back into my routine I am hoping for a lot of pr's.

tearing a muscle in my back is a real fear. i had a minor tear that left me pretty much bed ridden for two weeks 2 years ago. the ice is my playground, not the gym. i am confident traveling at high speeds into corners and against guys that are huge because of my ability and balance. i wasnt put on this earth to lift heavy shit with my back, but hockey has always come naturally. ill stick to what i know best :)

Almost every 800lbs+ deadlifter is over 6 feet tall. Andy Bolton is the only one who might be under, and he combats that by being well over 300lbs.

Until I started my contest diet I would work up to 495 sumo style for 3 using only lifting straps. I do 405 for 6 without straps. This was at a weight of 210lbs

I never believed in using belts.

Now that I am food deprived I am doing 405 for 3.

I forget who said it but someone once said that any guy with two years of good training should beable to dead 400lbs.

Maybe time off does help with strength gains???? Watch, I'll barely be able to pull 315 next week lol

yep deads are a great excercise no doubt about it but i dont feel the need to do them, never have. i get pretty wicked back pumps from doung bent over BB rows with overhand and underhand grips, freebar squats..thats about it

fully aware that not doing deads severly limits how much weight i can push, but just not interested... plus worried about back injuriest etc

dont need more thickness in the lower back got a big enough gut in bulk season

natenator
17-04-2009, 10:45 AM
actually, deads, like squats are really an entire body exercise. Quads, hams, gluts, traps, erectors, etc. Where I find I get the most benefit is in upper back thickness AND intensity. I start off with deads and by the time I am done I may be tired but I am FIRED UP to crank my shit even more than if I hadn't done them at all.

I used to do a lot of deads in my past. Thing is my low back got huge as well as my neck/traps. Legs are big regardless so I don't train them much nowadays. I'm somewhat lacking in the shoulder width and am injury prone there so I stopped dl'ing just to keep my body in proportion, I don't want the powerlifter look.

My best was using a hex trap bar and was 475 x2 @180lbs.

Its one of those exersizes that we can use to compare us. Like flat bar bench, squat, chins. You can get a good back workout without ever having to do a dead, however its one of the top 3 compound movements to trigger growth. My top 3 are deads, squats and dips. Runner up is bench, military, row, chins. ;)

Why would you do any hamstring exercise for high reps? They are mostly composed of type IIb fast twitch so heavy weight and low reps is what makes them grow.

dips trigger growth? very limited movement imo but good for beginners...better off doing movement like cgbp, french press and rolling tri ext for tri's......if you are doing dips for chest you are better off with decline bp....more weight=more growth and you can use significantly more weight on a decline bp as opposed to a dip(awkward strapping 4+plates between your legs)....of course thats just my opinion :) you do what works for your body!

Drummer
12-07-2009, 11:50 PM
Thats the funny thing for me... nothing would get my chest going until i got into heavy, wide leaning dips. Keep in mind... i lean a lot, use a proper dip belt, wide grip and now have great form on dips. In combination with flat bar, incline bar, some db work, I finally went over 300 on flat bench, and i owe it to dips.

I will post my PB in second, but first...I think it's important to mention your BW with your lift as 400 lbs is impressive for a 150 lb dude, but not so much for a 200lb + dude.

My PB is 501 @ 157 lbs. Now at 180'ish, I haven't broken that, yet.

I deadlifted 585 off the floor when I was 19. Locked it out perfect, but passed out as I set it down, and smashed my face on the rug. Had rug burn on my temple/eyebrow area.

I used to do heavy low rack partials with 550 for reps.......I think my record was 10 reps with it. That was in the off season of 2005, and my lower back has never been the same since.

I am way more careful with deads now and never use more than 315-405. I start by backing out of the rack and I go down to a few inches from the floor. I make it my mission to take the hams out of it and try to use the back, stretching and squeezing. I get WAY more out if that than I ever did out of really heavy shit. I never used to get a pump from the big deads, but with 315-405, using tons of control and purpose, I get serious pumps and have improved my lower back. I also let the shoulders stretch forward at the bottom to hit the mid-back.

Bodybuilding deads, for me anyway, are a COMPLETELY different movement from power deads.

15-07-2009, 03:39 AM
Not too sure how heavy I could go for 1rm and dont really care to know, but I rack pull 6 plates a side for 6-10 reps, no bouncing. I've done 6 plates from the floor as well, I think I for 5-6 reps. I dont think I'll go over 6 a side, I seem to get enough stimulation from that weight, and even with that weight I wont use that all the time either, sometimes I wont go over 4 plates a side.

I don't really believe most of the lifts in dis here thrad. Especially the guy on page 1 or 2 who claimed a 705 deadlift during pre contest like it;s no big deal LOL! Vids or it didn't happen. And most of you guys claim atleast over 500lbs? C-Money is legit, he's huge and still only pulled 500lb for 5, yet you guys are claiming 585 and sh*t for the same amount of reps, again like it's no big thing.

Anyways....
I could probably get 410lbs for 2 @ 184lbs 6'1, and I'm 17

But cool idea on a site, go canadians!

Lol what's wrong with my spelling? I missed an e in thrad?

All I'm gonna say is I believe the guy with pics and a video over 90% of people in this thrad without either. I don't want to get into an e fight though, it doesn't matter to me at the end of the day.

And yea likely 410 for 2, this week I pulled 390 for 3 but my grip was slipping from the first rep, with chalk I'd be good to pull atleast 20lb more. I'll have a vid within the next 2 weeks if you'd like. It's a decent lift for a 17y/o natural whose goal is overall athleticism rather than pure strength, and I'll get 500lb before my 18th bday. Welcome to cbb brah_of_iron. Hang around awhile. You'll notice something about this site. A lot of us are kinda big here. Some smaller too and some naturals. But we get along fine most of the time.

There are some on this thread I very much believe their lifts. We have powerlifters here and guys who compete at the heavy weight and super heavy weight class. Yes some of us cycle but not all.

Bodybuilding is not just lifting as much weight as you can. There are some who use lighter weights with better results. It's all up to the individual and what they want as goals and how to achieve them. Lifting as much as possible is not my goal anymore but once it was.

I am not saying some of the lifts aren't exaggerated, but what do we have to gain by lying what we lift on an anonymous site? My lifts are valid - they sound high for my bodyweight, especially as a natural. I compete in powerlifting (not in a while though due to injuries), and even my weights are puny compared to some of the guys. Just look at some of the records on the powerlifting.ca website. 618lbs at 148 pounds. or 654 at 165 pounds...

My lift of 610 at around 175 isn't so impressive anymore is it. You'd also be surprised how strong you can get in a specific motion when you train for it. BB's don't train specifically for powerlifting, and neither does most people who don't compete in the sport. And also, some people just are really strong!

My sister was pulling 310 pounds at age 17 weighing 120 pounds with a few months training...Some people just have good pulling genetics.

Yeah, thats what I hate about powerlifting. I'd rather we all just lift raw then to have inflated lifts. They have the argument to say it is preventative on injuries, but I would have to disagree when it takes years of training with these suits to even use them properly.
