Accutane; Experience

Well, some may know I got a prescription for Accutane actually Clarus a month ago from my derm. I was eager to see results but wary of side effects... I figured I would keep a month by month log just to give an opinon

Month 1
40mg/ed

As expected by day 5-8 my face completely broke out, like crazy and I started getting chest acne, however by day 14 it was cleared up and my face began to dry out... I had another break out around day 20 but not nearly as bad...

Now I am on day 29 and it is actually already showing postive results... Less acne in my problem areas, and only the occasional big swell up... However I still have some, and scarring from my previous acne...

Side Effects
Realistically none, I have dry face, dry nose and dry lips however this is to be expected... I just keep lip balm on me at all time, and have facial mosturizer, I find a vaporizer/humidifier really helps in my room... The dry face bothers me right in the morning but come afternoon it is no longer noticable...


I got my prescription for month 2, as expected no issues with blood work... Month 2 is 80mg, I will keep you guys posted.

I used it and only experienced severly dry lips and nose(nose bleeds), but don't recall any joint issues. My blood work also always came back good. All of my acne(back, chest, and face) completely cleared up and never came back, but I was left with some bad scars. The only time I get a flare up is when I cycle, and even then it just goes away eventually. Never had a real issue with acne since I took accutane, seems to have suppresed it almost completely.

never had issues with acne since accutane and that was over 10 years ago......i get a bit of it on my back on cycle but nothing to cry about.......i just wish i would have gone on it when i was younger cuz i think i waitied too long and got some scarring......

Wow thats a pretty high dosage of accutane. I had fairly sever acne on my face and chest for most of 07 and mid 08, I took 10mg of accutane for 6 months and it cleared it up right away. It was cearly effective from day 1.

Now I'll take 10mg once or twice a week while on cycle just to keep it off.

Side effects were not very pronounced at 10mg, some mild dry skin is all that was there.

Some studies have show a smaller dosage is very close to being as effective as a very high dosage.

Chemical peels and other treatments are supposed to help with scaring from acne, and some clinics have enzymes that can "fill in" scars. I might get one just to remove scars caused from my brothers.

I AM the accutane guru.. Any questions ask, I think it is ideal for cystic acne.. I just have persistent acne..
I'm lucky that I clear up within days of starting...

I did 4 courses, 120 mg for like 8 mnths and shit still came back.. So now I take
2 tabs a week to keep it at bay (not currently, omega eggs seem to b wrking)

I too have read about micro dosing (on another mission to convince a specialist) lol

Anyways on Month 5, no noticeable sides except dry skin dry lips and dry nasal...

Its been a pleasant experience, Blood tests always come back great, no depression no nothing.. Love it so far... going on for 6 months actually

how bad was your acne? i have a buddy on 40mg/day and his back is so gross he cant take his shirt off. Hes been on for 2 months and no improvement.

mine was pretty bad not disgusting but, i have some scars...

2 months is not too long, and also 40mg is a pretty small dose
