Schwarzenegger: Steroid Use Sends Bad Message

February 22, 2009

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger says super star athletes worshipped by young fans have no choice but to be role models and understand that steroid use is the wrong message for kids.

The former world champion body-builder made the comment on CNN’s Sunday news and talk show, “State of the Union,” though he opted not to single out Yankees star Alex Rodriquez, or address the use of steroids among competitors during the “Pumping Iron” era that put Schwarzenegger on Hollywood’s radar screen.

“I think it’s important to get the message out that we should not use drugs. I think we have a certain obligation as athletes to inspire young people. When someone wins an Olympic championship or a boxing championship, whatever it may be, you’re not only a champion, but you’re also an inspirational vehicle for young kids and for people in general to stay fit, to lose weight and all of this,” he said.

“I think that the message of not using drugs, not using alcohol, all of those things, always out there and inspire young kids. So I think there are some athletes go in that direction because there’s so much competition. I think they need to come out, be clean, and say look, I used that, I made a mistake, or whatever it is and the sports ought to be without drugs. That’s the important thing,” Schwarzenegger added.

What a piece of shit he turned out to be!!

He even put alcohol in the same catigory as AAS, oh thats right he did lots of both didn't he? "meelk is fo babies, drink beer"

As said above he has no choice. There is a much bigger picture for him at stake should he support steroid use. His entire career, life, family is on the line. I wouldn't call him a piece of shit because he is taking care of his family. If saying "dont do drugs" would net me a 6 figure position with pretty much every expense in life paid like he has I would say the same thing. In his job there is a lot more duties he has to deal with than steroids. I'm sure steroids are at the bottom of his list for concerns in such a crime ridden state. I know, I've lived in Los Angeles...

So lieing is justified as long as it's to support your family? Whats his net worth by the way, couple hundred mil.? Can you honestly trust a guy that "lie's" about small thing's in the hope's he doesn't lie about the bigger picture?

Who says he is lieing bro? I use to be a heavy smoker and never seen anything wrong with it. I stopped smoking and now it grosses me out. I do not support it and wish it was made an illegal substance to help limit people using it. Arnold admitted to using steroids in the past. He may regret using them now. It seems his comments are more in the interest of protecting "children".

YES Arnold is now acting pretty hypocritical now that he is out of the BB game but hey. Times were differnt in the Arnold days. People didnt shame on steroid users and regard them as horrible role models like they do today. Today steroids users are considered "BAD GUYS" by the media. To me its all in the eye of the beholder. Personally im too young and not interested in AAS but i would NEVER shame on someone who is using. To tell you the truth i find that they are in essence the only way to make it to the top of ones athletic prowess. There ethical issues are something else and the olympics is a differnt issue. But just my 2 cents.

BOTTOM LINE: ARNOLD IS STILL NUMERO UNO IMO...

Thats the word i was looking for, hypocrite! But he's still lieing, he knows the truth about steroids but still spew's the uneducated popular thinking of the day, he knows better. And since when did AAS get grouped in with drugs? Isn't test a hormon, not a drug? Or are we just spliting hairs?

I wish he would say what he really thinks, but Arnold just wants approval of the majority.
I'd probably do the same.

Yeah, it's a tough spot to be in for him, but he has to remember that without steroids he would not be in the position that he is in today.

I say the media are the biggest assholes out there. Why does everyone need to know all the garbage and details of everyones private life all for the sake of ratings, money and shock factor. Professional athletes and their drug use should be litigated by the associated sports coucil and not the general public instead of instigating lynch mobs everytime someone steps out of the boundries.

I would lie for my career in a heartbeat, and im sure many of you do as well...How many juicers here tell the truth to everyone and anyone that asks you if you are a user....I lie often about this subject, and for damn good reason as well....
I really believe if you were asked by someone in a crowd of folks you arent certain of, you would be the biggest cell tech advocate out there, with glutamine and tribulus, but definitely not vitamin J....
Ya know what i mean...
Plus i love arnold....:handsome

I guess the arnold classic should be cancelled..........the fact of the matter is this guy's whole success derived from his use of steroids. He would be a nobody living in Austria without steroids, then he says that sports stars should not use them.....well hello look what he got out of it, he should be a poster boy for steroid use!

He's a ****ing idiot and larry king is also for Not asking the real questions..
Arnold when you were a professional bodybuilder didn't you take LOTS of steroids ?.. .

We can say that without the steroids you would of never been a famous bodybuilder or actor ?

Arnold isn't there a bodybuilding competition named after you and most of the competitors in that competition on steroids ?..

Arnold how come the state you Govern is in the highest dept of all other states and the highest taxed ?

I don't get it. Aren't any of you guys competition body builders? When on a stage posing do you openly thank the crowd for their cheers and tell them you use Tren or winny to cut before the show? I'm willing to bet you would lie so you wouldn't lose your medal. How is that any better than Arnold telling a lie to keep his career and family. Seems the medal is a lot less important...

There's a huge difference. Who am i?? Just a shmuck that goe's to jail or whatever, loose my job and end up on the soup line with my family. I will have had asolutely no effect on the steroid situation. The stigma with AAS is because the people that could make a difference won't speak out. And by speaking out i mean tell the truth about the use of AAS.

Arnold was the man, back in the late 70's and early 80's he had a huge impack on me. I bought everything he ever wrote, he brought BB to the forefront. His entire career, his success, wealth, connection's revovled around this lifestyle.....He sold out.
