The last few weeks have been great with my training:

Doing 5X5 and hitting PRs, started swimming feeling great.

On Monday I had a mediocre weight work out because I was feeling tired,

Tuesday was another mediocre day (no weights) but I could swim both days.

Wednesday my strength was nonexistent and I had to switch my work out to higher volume/lower intensity in order to finish it Thursday I started coughing Friday I did throughout the day (but stopped during the evening when I was playing volleyball) Saturday gets worse.

I was doing 5X5 4 X a week and swimming 3 X.

1) Should I stop cardio all together?
2) Was my training routine too much for my CNS?3) Should I stop working out while I have this cough?
4) Am I freaking out?

1-No, but lighten up on the cardio.

2-Depends, how long have you been trying for PR's? According to Starr and Pendally 5x5 should only be done for 4 weeks, followed by a deload.

4-yes, lol.

Sounds to me like you have what i got, a flu bug, coughing, tired.. I haven't been to the gym in a week and probably won't be back till mid week.. Suck's but i'm way ahead of the game to rest up and let my body heal, i'd just be wasteing my time.

are you sleeping enough?
from what i understand 5x5 is very taxing, and you're adding to the stress with the cardio, could make it "easer" to catch the flu/get sick

take it easy for 2 weeks, load up on the ecaneica, there is still plenty of time before the summer hits :)

Thanks guys.

I guess I have no other option other than slow down as my cough is turning into a throat ache.

Better take it easy on yourself and recover. A few years back I started feeling the same and kept pushing because I'm stubborn and not all that bright. End result was pneumonia and wiped out for a month, no lifting.
