is there anybody here who has or is running an e-business or more specifically a small e-business out of the house . If so what are some of the initial pitfalls to avoid and do you have any advice on hot areas to get into.
After working for a company the last 14yrs for very little return , the idea of running my own business has a lot of appeal.
Any advice would be appreciated
:D

I think getting everyone to find your site is the hardest thing on the net right now. Everyone and their grandmother has a site :(

there are a lot of options out there for nice, integrated solutions. what are you planning to sell? what is your start-up budget?
Physique [and other sponsors] will have lots of good input... especially if you won't be a competitor to them :)

what are you selling? hard to comment without knowing that.
but basically getting people to your site is extremely hard. unless you wish to spend BIG dollars getting top 10 on every major search engine. As most people do not read past the first page.
Try doing banner exchanges with other sites, this is usually free. after that find sites that have a forum section, and ask to sponsor them. this way you usally get your own forum and banner on the site. again it will come down to how much you wish to spend.
thats about it really. most of the sites that sell you email address are bogus, as spaming people is ilegal now. u basically just need to be around the sites you sponsor, your presence is worth it s wait in gold, i find.

Time and patience is another virtue on the net.
