I bitch so much that I believe from time to time I should share something good.

Some of you know that volleyball destroyed my knees, ankles, low back and right shoulder therefore I can't push nearly as hard as I'd like.

Anyways January starts and I decide follow 5X5 as much as possible.

The 1st 3 weeks where quite good in terms of knowing where my body is and figuring out the best routine.

Last week I WO until Wednesday only and yesterday I had a decent WO plus played VB for 2 hours during the evening.

Today I have no appointments and will work in a side project from home therefore I decided to wake up early and do weights just as a matter or keeping a routine. And I did it.

Arrived there with full stomach and got all frustrated as I could shoulder press 5X5 @ 135.

I told myself to shut up and psyche myself positively as that was just lack of stimulus to my CNS as I had just jumped out of bed 75 min ago.

Did one set of 50 ritm squats @ 95, them another one @ 135 and the fun started. There where about 2 months that I didn't squat at all.

195X10
225X8
235X5
245X5 PR
245X6 PR

I felt that my muscles could push even harder but my joints would blow if I did it.

I know that these number are far from impressive - 5'11" 194 12%?bf - and a bunch of guys here can press this much but still fells good having my body responding as I wanted for a change.

On the geek side: deloading and proper warm up are lifters' good friends!

Good to make progress keep it up. I squat 470x5 reps but it took a long time to get that high. Years and Years of training, I acutally love squats.

knee wraps could help! If you read up on there use and how to put them on.

interesting thread. ive been bodybuilding for 6 years now and ive only just started to make quality gains with squats. i was a national level high jumper and it took a major toll so i was only able to squat 2 or 3 plates a side for about 4 years. i was also playing football and the stresses that were put on the knees would cause so much pain and tendonitis that i just couldnt "squat for squat" after really deciding to get into competing i decided to stop all other activities and just focus on bodybuilding and within a year i went from 315 for 12, to now being able to squat 540 for my just recent personal best 25. it was the hardest thing to stop some of the sports i love, but the gains ive maid and the lack of pain now is all worth it. Congrats warlock hopefully it keeps gettin better.

I feel your past pain, I have tendonitis in both knees and sometimes the pain is just unbearable even though the muscle can take a lot more.

I have a 24" vertical that is decent and I know that if I could get all my lower body issues resolved I'd probably be able to add 2 more in a short period of time but that is a double edge sword as every time that I decide that I had enough I play one last game and my performance surprises me. and being able to outperform someone that is 20 years younger than you is just a great feeling.

I am turning 38 this coming may and have my plan settled already: finish my VB season, keep working on my strength, slowly burning the lard to not loose muscle and them during the summer concentrate on looking great.

It has been one month from the beginning of the plan and so far I have reached my goals, I am not neurotic about anything as I planned to have slow increments in my progress and I am reaching them all

So I spoke a little too early last week.

Tuesday evening I was playing VB and sprained my ankle nothing ad but i had to wrap it for the next few days.

Today I started squating again:

170X8
205X8
225X8
245X8 PR
255X8 PR

3 min rest instead of 2 makes such a difference. I could push even harder, but not today.
I'll let my body get used to these new loads.
