I add have started adding Psyllium in my first and last shakes of the day. Extra fibre will definitely benefit high protein diets. Not sure if it is related but I have dropped a belt loop in the last 2 weeks since I have been adding it. Not sure if it is related but it is the only thing I have changed in my routine lately.

I'll usually throw in a couple of tablespoons of flax seed. Extra fiber and extra Omega3s.

Best fibre shake still belongs to Hemp Seed. High protein vegetable source, with a good amount of fibre per serving as well. High fibre diets WILL shrink your waistband for sure. Hemp FTW.

what is a good hemp product that can simply be added to shakes? might the fiber help curb the runs for people who are sensitive to shakes?

Hi Guys, don't ask me why... but I came accross this thread doing a Google search :)

I add a scoop of this to all my shakes... I am surprised that so few people know about this supplement!

i'm also a fan of Psyllium. I add it to my protein shake in water, it actually tastes good that way and makes it easy to control. but don't use too much early on, you'll be in the 'office' all day LOL

I have a huge problem with fibre. I tried all dosages of Fiberlyze and the stuff just clogs me up. Not sure why. VPX Fibreteq is so-so, but ground flax seeds work best for me. I supplement with fish oil too.

But, when on a keto diet during pro/veg days, flax seeds cannot be used due to high fat content. Wheat bran looks so-so, because of the high amount of carbs. What would you guys recommend as fibre for pro/veg days? I stuck through with Exlax, extra strength :)

^^^^ Have you tried psyllium husk fibre as stated previously? It is the best for me and cheap.

I did, but I have a feeling that the brand that I got was crap. It was indian psyllium husk, and it tasted like shit and was horrible. So:
- where do you guys get you psyllium / what brand?
- do you also need to grind it like flaxseeds?

metamucil constain maltodextin, which is a no-no on keto. you will have trace carbs in just about any fiber, Fiberlyze has the lowest amount by far from the ones that I know. have a look at nutritiondata.com

Try Bulk Barn... I've had no issues with their stuff. Makes a great addition to oatmeal, and requires no grinding.

Cool bro, thanks! They're right next to where I live, gonna swing by the store now. This doesn't look right though, does it? http://www.bulkbarn.ca/en-ca/products.html?product=1756 <- nutritional information

They should list the trace-carbs, no? So I'm thinking that maybe half of those 20g of dietary fiber would be absorbed... Well, I have no choice, have to run at least some fibre on pro/veg. Everything has trace carbs anyway, apart from maybe premium whey iso.

I get my psyllium at Bulk Barn. It is not flavoured and no brand. I put a big spoonful in my shakes.

Psyllium is non-digestible, so there is no carb intake.

Does taking fiber with protein not prevent digestion of a portion of the protein?

Not at all, maybe slightly longer absorption time with soluble fiber, but again only slightly.

Can one grow a dependency on psyllium. Only reason I ask is because a friend of mine uses a fibre supplement which has that in it, and if he doesn't consume it for one day he'll get backed up.

I do flaxseed in my shakes, great stuff.

Psyllium fibre is an adaptogenic fibre. So if you stool is too soft, like the runs, it makes it the proper consistency. If your poo is too hard and your constipated, it softens it to the proper consistency as well. Flax is pretty good fibre too, but I would buy Raw Organic Golden Flax Seed's, grind them up myself in a coffee grinder or even my blender works. Flaxseed is also an amazing fibre source, especially for bodybuilders like us or anyone really into health. When ground, flaxseed contains a mix of both soluble and insoluble fibre. As ground flaxseed absorbs water, it forms a gel-like consistency that not only softens stool, but also seems to be soothing to the intestinal lining. And as we all know, flax seed has tons of good omega 3 and 6's in them. Oat brand fibre is a very good fiber source and works very similar to flax and psyllium. Fiberlyze has a very good blend of all these fiber sources, highly recommend it! Also, Brad J. Kings Ultimate line has a product called Fibrelean which is very very good as well. Myself, having a few GI (gastrointestinal) diseases, I have had a few scares and have really researched into the GI system, and especially how fibre works in the body for its many purposes. My wife as well is a GI RN and I communicate with her and the GI doctors she works with on a daily basis. We need to have more fibre in our diets. Especially if you are into bodybuilding, as the amount of meat we eat, especially red meat, it is VITAL for us to get a average of 25-30grams of fibre from both insoluble and soluble sources daily. Its just smart, easy, and effective to do. You can have healthier blood sugar levels, liver health and function, greatly lower your risks of gastrointestinal diseases like cancer, chrones, colitis, diverticulitis, etc..... Fibre is your friend! ;)
