After being told i have mild IBS with unknown triggers from my doc (im not lactose intolerant, celiac or anything obvious from blood work) i got to readinga bunch about digestion. It is relevant to people who want to build muscle because apparently many of us have food sensitivities we are unaware of. Most of us are sensitive to at least a couple things. Not to be confused with food allergies, which are immune reactions that come on quickly (think peanuts). Sensitivities are digestion problems that can show up to 72 hours after ingestion. Also, volume of food ingested is important. Some ppl can take more before they react. Why is this important to us? We can develope sensitivities by eating way to much of the same food. If we are sensitive to a food, it hinders digestion. If you have diarrhea, you're not absorbing nutrients properly, and muscles are not being repaired quickly, if at all. Not to mention dehydration, which is important on all levels.

I mostly saw that getting protein from many high quality food sources first, then supplementing with high quality whey/albumin/casien to top up the day is important to help avoid this. PWO shakes are definitely important.

Just thought id toss out what ive been reading... a lot of cool sports meds and stuff. Olympic athlete trainers and such talking about athletes developing sensitivities to beef, chicken etc due to eating way too much of the same thing. It can be reset by staying away from a food for a few weeks tho i guess. In the case of people who lack enzymes for proper digestion of certain foods (think lactose) they have to avoid those foods for good, or take enzymes to help.
