Hey Guys,

Just wondering if anyone has any idea how much BCAA, glutamine or creatine gets into the system. If I am taking 5grams of supplements 3X's/day how much does the body actually absorbed?

I would imagine the stomach acids would kill off some of the potency and not be fully absorbed into the liver.

Just looking for a general idea.

For sure there is one I know that dosen`t get absorbed and that`s glutamine. Complete freakin waste of money. Creatine is very high, 95% I heard by on an MD radio show recently. The BCAA I don`t know, most likely is better absorbed on an empty stomach. Maybe 5151 (where`s you been bro) or OHurley will chime in.

glutamine is a waste.....your intestines end up using something like 80% of it.......

I didn't know that. I've never used glutamine before.

I would say there are way too many variables to consider. There may be some good literature out there that would give general guidelines but that would probably be specific to each product. Even things like the time of day and what you've eaten and when in relation to the supplement consumption would affect absorption.

I imagine BCAA absorption would be higher than creatine. I'm really not even sure how the body treats creatine because it has no nutritional value. If it's treated similar to a drug than given the route of administration (oral) the absorption would be quite low. Most of it ends up as creatinine in your urine. I remember my doctor being concerned about it until I told them I was taking creatine because elevated creatinine/protein in the urine is normally an indication that your kidneys arn't functioning properly. I never take more than 5g of creatine monohydrate/day. If you eat a lot of meat (particularly red meat) than you are already getting some creatine from that.

On a related topic does anyone know the reasoning behind most people advocating a loading period for creatine monohydrate but not kre-alkalyn? Is absorption really that much better? Is there any scientific evidence?

^^^ The loading gets you results very fast strength and weight wise. This is usually done at 20 grams per day for 5-7 days then standard maintenance doses to continue. The loading phase often causes stomach problems in people. The standard 5 grams a day method will take 3-4 weeks to see results.

I remember the first creatine product I ever bought. It was from ast research. Instead of teaspoons, I was taking tables spoons. So I took 4 or 5 tablespoons (60-75 grams) that very first day and had severe stomach problems, lol. I was living at home at the time and my mom was so worried, like any parent she was just terrified of muscle enhancing product...

I understand the loading phase. I've done it both ways, with and without a loading phase. I was just curious why it isn't done with kre-alkalyn creatine? Or maybe if absorption/bioavailability is similar it should be.

^^^ Because the people who use purple k think it`s so potent and superior and are impressed by the fancy bottle and pharmaceutical looking caps they think that their liver might explode if they take more than 2 caps within 24 hours. Trust me I worked in the sales of supps and seen the people who buy this shit. EVERY TIME it was some nooby looking for something to make him huge thinking this was it.

Hmm interesting question, well i'm not sure the exact amount, but your normal creatine content in the blood is around 40-50umol/l....after a 5g bolus of creatine is ingested orally, it can raise to about 700-900 umol/l after about an hour, then it starts to drop and should be back to baseline around 4-5 hour period....so obviously a significant amount is absorbed into the body...

I'm not certain of BCAAs and other amino acids however, i think it probably depends on a lot of variables. It's possible that there is some that are damaged by the digestive process. But i would assume that since our bodies are designed to absorb nutrients, the majority of would be taken in??

I think taking supplements on an empty stomach is usually a good idea. Most often the manufacturer recommends doing so anyway. Taking your creatine, bcaa, or glutamine with a meal seems like it will get lost in the mix of all the other food you are consuming. I dont see how glutamine could be considered junk by any means as it aids in the health of your intestines, which will help boost absorption of all other nutrients and amino's.

I thought Purple K was superior. I did take 4x the recomended dose but I was actually stronger on it than when I was on my prior cycle at the time. My goal was 600 on deads that year and I hit it in between cycles and was repping it before I went back "on".

As you know you do keep some of the strength after a cycle. So being off and retaining some of the strenght from the cycle you then added purple k bringing your strenght up again. You would have gotten the same results with monohydrate.
